Do you have to transfer AppleCare?

Quick question. I just got a used iPhone X. The previous owner bought the full Applecare+ for it. Does this have to be transferred to my name? I read an article online that says it does, however, I have owned at least a dozen used apple products in the past that came with AppleCare and I never had to transfer it to use the AppleCare. Just curious if something changed.

No. AppleCare follows the serial number of the device not the owner.

It can be transferred, but as the previous poster said it is not absolutely necessary. If you could get it transferred though, I would.

Presumably there is nothing to stop the original owner cancelling the Applecare cover at any time and being refunded.

I think if I bought a second hand product with Applecare I would want it transferring to my name to prevent this.
