I've had them on since iMessage was introduced... but after months of having it on I realized that there are people that I want to ignore for as long as i can lol... so on or off?

Off; because, why?

iMessage tells you if it was delivered or not, so why do I need to know if the person read it or not? They'll get it and respond when they feel like it.

That's how I feel. Also, Read Receipts are not an accurate depiction anyways as people can read messages via Notification Center and it won't mark the message as 'Read'.

valid point

I have them on, I know that some people probably get annoyed if they see me read it and not reply straight away, but I reply when I get a chance :).

They slowly realise that lol.

I keep them on.

The message was delivered and it was read and I am not replying. Clearly this means 1) I'm very busy or 2) I don't want to talk to you right now. Now if it was only just delivered, somebody might end up calling or realize that I don't have my phone... I don't know, I think the read receipts do provide some extra beneficial information to the textee.

I keep it on. The more info the better. I actually forgot they existed until this thread though, I turned them on and forgot about them. Probably because most of my friends don't have iPhones.

Off - there really is no reason to have them on considering I will reply to messages when I want, not necessarily when I see them and I don't want people to get the false assumption.

Wirelessly posted

Are we adults or children?

I leave mine on. If I don't reply and your feelings are hurt you have bigger issues then a silly on/off setting.

Frankly, I like the fact others see I've read what they sent me, and I don't care if they get the wrong idea when an immediate response isn't forthcoming.

We could play that game all day! Yeah I read your text and didn't feel like responding...your point?

Yes I did read your text to pick up milk...I forgot...sry!

Sure I saw where you sent me that message. I decided to go golfing anyways.

Just because I read something doesn't contractually obligate me to anything.
