The only previous iPhone that I had was the 3GS, and yes, I still have it.

I still have my first iPhone, my trusty old 4GB 2G. I got it back in 2007, right after the price drop when they were selling out of their inventory of them ($299 for an iPhone?!?!? What a great deal!) and used it as my main phone up until the beginning of this year when I finally upgraded to a white 32GB 3GS. I kept the 2G around as a touchpod and general experimentation iPhone. When the iPhone 4 came out, I got a black 32GB one and gave the 3GS to my mother. She was still on her 8GB 2G, and even today still tells me "This phone is so *fast*!"

In short, yes, I have kept one of my old iPhones. My 4GB 2G. I have it around now as primarily a touchpod, something to mess around with hacking on, and as a travel phone since it's unlocked.

This is my first iPhone (love it!) but if I had previous generations I wouldn't.

Take the 16GB 3GS, I sells for about $350 CAN do I really to keep that on my desktop.

Consoles, HomeTheater Components, Smart Phones and Cars. Unless, I have money coming out of my *** I will sell it and upgrade.

I wish I had kept my older iPhones, but it's hard to justify it when you can sell them for so much. I sold my 2G for $220 in September 09 and bought a refurbished 3G from AT&T for $50. And I sold the 3G for $170 in July of this year. It helps a lot to sell the old one if you want to purchase the newest iPhone when it comes out.

I still have my iPod 2nd Generation... that's never going away ;) My brother in law has still got the iPod 1st generation... But those are classics and marked a big change in technological history... While the iPhone is indeed a very innovative product and I love my iPhone, it's not that revolutionary as the first iPod was. So, I don't know if I would hang on to my iPhone 3GS if I got an iPhone 4. Maybe I'd keep it as a back-up phone, or I'd pass it on to my parents or just sell it or something.

I kept my 3G as a backup when I bought my 4. If my iPhone 4 should suffer a fatal accident then I will still have an iPhone to use without having to pay to replace w/ another 4 (and depending on when I was in my upgrade cycle I may just wait until I'd be eligible to upgrade to the next iPhone).

I've kept my original iphone, and between my wife and I we've got every gen somewhere in the house at the moment. I suspect i'll always keep mine where as she will not.

Yup, when I got the iPhone 4, I had just got a replacement 32Gb 3GS from Apple due to issues with it restarting several times a day after 4.0.1, so I gave that to the girlfriend. She already had my old 8Gb 2G so that's now sitting in a stand on my shelf doing very little.

-Original iPhone 16GB [No service]

-iPhone 3G White 16GB [No service]

so currently i own 5 iPhones total...

3G purchased 3/09, factory unlocked model purchased in Middle East...given to sister when it was replaced with the 3GS 10/09. 3GS then given to sister when i4 was released. Took my factory unlocked 3G back to use as an iPod and in the event I leave the US again.

I still have my iphone 2g too much hassle to start selling it.now i use it as mp3 player when im renovating my new house :)

As someone pointed out earlier - when you are so used to using an iPhone - any other phone feels weird to use. I don't want to press the number 5 key 3 times to get the letter H (or whatever it is, yeah thats how long i've been away from dumb phones). So now that I am using my iPhone 4 - it makes sense to have a backup, just incase.

I got my iPhone 4 last week and last night I finally connected it to itunes and activated it. I felt like i was cheating on my 2G lol. It will be sad when I stop using the 2G, which has been nothing but great for the last 3 years! I want to keep my 2G as my backup phone but my dad, mum and girlfriend all want it. It looks as good and new as the day I bought it back in 2007. I know if I give it to anyone else, they wont baby it like I did. I'll never sell my 2G - its the first ever Apple phone - a classic by design even to this day. If anything i'll keep it as a backup or reluctantly give it to one of the three people asking!

I upgrade yearly. I have three great daughters 22, 18 and 12.
They each inherit an iPhone when I upgrade. Two eldest looked after so far with a 3g and a 3gs. they love them and obviously get as much a kick from me upgrading as I do.
Same will apply to my iPad when the 2nd gen appears. I'll begin passing on my old ones

I did usually but since I am switching away from AT&T I am going to give my 3G away to someone who will appreciate it.

Passed my old 3GS to my girlfriend - if I wouldn't ... I really don't think I would have sold it.

Kept it in mint condition, still looks as new....noooooo....it belongs to the family somehow :D

I am considering keeping my 3g so that I can sell the iphone 4 before the 5 is announced to maximize selling price. I am not going to use anything other than an iphone because I think at&t will start trying to get rid of as many unlimited plans as they can.
