I went to a drive in a couple of times when I was young. It wasn't the greatest. The sound sucked and it was hot (Miami, FL in summer). Other than getting a car load of people in for $20, I don't really see the draw. I don't think there are any here in Colorado.

There are still a few drive-ins, here, near Chicago. This includes one of the top drive-ins in the country, The Midway Drive-In. We also have The Cascade, which I've never been to, among a few others.

It's been years since I've been to one, though. They were fun. Though, the sound sucked. Nowadays, even with car radio, you're not going to get powerful surround sound at a drive-in. You go to a drive-in for cheap movies and fun. If you really care about the movie, you should go to a regular theater.

Loved going when I was a kid. Sadly, there are no more on Long Island or in NYC. The last one on

There was a drive-in close to us in southern Ohio. It had two screens and only played the new release movies. It was perfect for my and my wife because we have two very young daughters. If one of them got fussy, we didn't piss everyone else off. Unfortunately, the drive-in shut down last summer. I miss it.

The conversion to digital for distribution of new movies is a big thing, with many drive-in theaters being old family run, non-corporate backed operations.

In a rural area, the land is still cheap, and plentiful. The costs are pretty basic. In the suburbs and metropolis.. they've seemed to turn to becoming junk swapmeets and the movie operations long gone. :(

The one four screen drive-in here in northern San Diego County has not shown movies since the mid-1990's, and resembles a dump now, with the swap meet operation going on.

Honda sponsored a fund raising drive where funds raised were used at drive-ins voted on to receive them.

i only think there is 2 or 3 where i live but i think they are very cool, want to take my girlfriend to one this summer.

All of them are gone around here, never really got the chance to go to one. But there were lots of remnants of them, or what was left of them before the land got sold off.

I remember drive-ins as a kids but now, in 2014, I think they're only one or two around in my state. I think they from a bygone area and while I remember them fondly I'd say they're more of a curiosity in this day and age.
