Sign up another one who loves Chicago. My family is from Bucktown, and as much as I tried during my late teens/early twenties, I cannot justify leaving this magnificent city. We're already looking at apartments for next year. It's weird to say it, but I am truly in love with this city. Every time I see the skyline, it takes my breath away- and has for a long time!

Yep- it's pretty damn fantastic. I have friends in NYC who always try to get me to move there. I'm like, "Are you kidding me? No way am I ever leaving Chicago!"

I live in a small town on the East Coast of NSW, Australia.

I love the small town life, but a question for anyone...

Do you prefer city or country life?

I hate where I live. Most people that live around here can't stand to see others do better than them (go to school, get a nice job, etc) and it's quite frustrating to be ridiculed by them on a daily basis because they're too lazy to work for nice things.

I kind of enjoy the small town lifestyle but just not here.

Best advice that I can give is just to ignore them.

And if it is too much to handle, then consider moving.,

I grew up in a rural area and went to college in a more rural area. I'll take the city, please. I like it much more and everybody doesn't get into your business. You can have a good amount of anonymity, but if you want to hang out with your friends, it's just a train or bus ride away. Oh- and I don't have to have a car! That's the best.

oh where abouts in aust do you live mate??

i love the small town life, its amazing. no way could i ever live in sydney or anywhere large. being in the big city has advantages, but also some disadvantages i spose.

There is definitely no anonymity in a small community. Everyone knows everyone and their family history.

i disagree, i wouldnt even know 10% of the people who live in my town, with a pop of about 10,000.

Yep- I never did like that. There was always someone keeping an eye on you or sticking their nose where they shouldn't.
Yeah, it gets old when everyone knows your business.

Where I grew up, in HS we had a party telephone line that we shared with 12 other families. Sort of hard to have a private conversation.

10,000 people. No wonder you think like that.

BTW, that's a city where I come from! :D

Country life, when I get old and settle down but city till I turn 40-50. However, my impression of the city hasn't good so far (crappy quality, crappy apartments, rude people, etc), more on this below.

I was born in Seoul, raised in the Bay Area, and currently live in Busan (Korea).

and I REALLY HATE IT HERE! For one thing, materialistically you can't buy most US products (Doritos, clothes for men that are for men, etc) in Korea unless you got cash.

The city-scape is ruined by all these "love-motels" and runned down buildings. Yet I admit I don't live in the best part (I live in the 'outskirts'), which would be the beach part known as Haeundae.
The people here are really rude to one another (when you compare to the standards of the BA, to other Koreans it's just normal) since there is no word for "excuse me" and the drivers here are crazy.
The school I go to (foreign school) is sooooo small and boring.

But I might be a little biased here since the Bay Area is my home and I feel as if I been kidnapped from it. Only thing that keeps me here and brought me here are my parents. The day I turn 18, I'm heading towards a UC school and returning to my home [unless something happens].

I would like to explore any part of the US... Namely Boston + NY and outside the States, I'd like to visit Japan (Tokyo) and Australia.

I'm at a halls of residence at uni now, which is all well and nice being 5 minutes walk away from literally everything, but I do miss waking up and opening my curtains to see loads of green fields, oh well.

Five minutes walk from the Thames towpath, one minute from a nature reserve, two minutes from Richmond Park, twenty minutes from Heathrow, five minutes from Kew Gardens, two minutes from this, the finest view in all of London:

What could be better?

I live in Annapolis MD, which, from this picture, looks quite lovely. And it is.

Just not where I want to live. It's never really felt like home to me and I have lived here my whole life.

Monterey or Santa Cruz CA are where I'd like to be.

I live in the country, just outside the burbs of an urban jungle. I always thought I would move closer to downtown but rather have gone the other direction and I could not be happier. The commute is a bit longer but that is offset by lower insurance rates on everything I own, including my umbrella policy.

I am working on an electric conversion with a generator; diesel or gas powered. Initial data is impressive. Screw the Prius, it's a fraud.

Downtown is not too far a drive; nor is the cabin.
:D

City, by far. Not only do I prefer the culture, diversity and endless amount of things to do, but I also couldn't fathom living in the rural areas of the United States. I like public transit and wouldn't want to rely on my car to get me everywhere, but also I just couldn't take the narrow-minded conservativeness :)
