DVD Drive???

I bought the external USB superdrive and it's really cool. I've only used it a few time, but it certainly doesn't need to be intergrated.

nope

I bought the external superdrive for nothing, I have only used it once! Hard drive space is perfect for me, I have stuff backed up on my .mac account, and if I want to see videos, I have eyetv wifi set up on my Imac, I can see my videos whenever I want, where ever I want, just need to connect to a wifi...if I have nothing to watch there I just download from Itunes...MBA rocks!:D

My MBA USB superdrive is sitting on my desk collecting dust. Wasted my money on that one.

Nope

I would have missed it on day one, when I installed all my CD/DVD based software like MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite. I haven't missed it once since then.

It's funny how the biggest complaint thrown at the Air is that it doesn't have a built in drive, so you have have to carry around an external one and plug it in (if you need it) but then the next complain is that it doesn't have 20 input orifices for other things... that you would have to carry around.

Oh NO you don't!!! Ya gotta pay full just like the rest of us!!! ;)

LOL I don't need it THAT bad since I have an iMac to use for its optical drive but if someone didn't want theirs and would like to just get rid of it, I'm there. :D

I bought it for the rare occasion that I absolutely need it, but my home network is already quite friendly to the drive-less little machine.

Over the last couple of years, I have archived disc images and license keys for software I have purchased onto a RAID5 attached to my desktop. Makes it really easy if and when I need to reinstall software on the desktop since the only disc I need is the OS install disc, if that (as I have a copy of the OS installer sitting on a second partition).

I also have the software repository accessible under my account across the network, so if I need to install something like Office, I can mount the image remotely and just install.

At this point, I rarely even use the DVD drive in my desktop, let alone a laptop which has full access to my archives wirelessly and does a lot less heavy lifting.

A friend bought an MBA and external Superdrive yesterday. Last night she was thrilled to discover that she could use the Superdrive to install some music from some handmade CDs into iTunes and that it worked flawlessly, whereas these same disks had gotten stuck in the slot drive of her old G5 iMac. I haven't tried my own Superdisk for that purpose yet or for watching DVD movies on my MBA but I am glad to have the Superdisk available when I need it.

The only thing I really miss so far is the ethernet port. There have been three separate times when not having it has burnt me, mostly because of issues with wireless internet.

Since upgrading to Time Capsule I have a spare AP Express, so next time you want to use ethernet, plug your network cable into your express and bobs your uncle..... macbook air!!

I bought the SD 2 weeks after buying the Air and I have not used it once. However, there it sits in its pretty package and I am GLAD I got it. No regrets, no sorrow. I like it and will use it one day. Amen.

I have one of those for that reason. Great for a hotel room, really not so much for a meeting where you all have a wired connection and not enough power outlets to start with.

I got the USB/Ethernet doohicky and it works great!

AirPort Express ROCKS!

We do this ALL the time.

When in hotels with a WIRED connection at the desk.
When in someone's office. Although this week I had to crawl under a desk and unplug their connection for the day.

Anyway - the AirPort Express is a MUST for us, we travel with it always. Even when we used the MB Pro, still did not want to be teathered to a hotel room desk.

So, Bob's my uncle!

i used an external drive once... to reinstall the os

Same here. The wireless setup in OS X did not work at all.
I even had to transfer all of our files using iDisk and a DVD I burned using the external drive for the Air. Now it's back in it's box, maybe forever... Someone should rent them on Craig's list for $20 a pop!
