I've seen many videos on Youtube explaining how applications work as far as the GPS locator goes, you just can't load pages and so on. Does anyone know for sure, does GPS signal only get recognized when you have 3G on your iPad?

You need to have a 3G capable iPad to get GPS. But, you do not have to have the service activated, turned on, or connected.

This. The Wifi-Only iPad lacks a GPS, but it should work without 3g as long as you have the Wifi+3g iPad.
