Do you need iOS 10 to install watch OS 3?

They're one and the same. WOS3 is bundled with iOS 10. So it's more a case of you can't install WOS3 without iOS 10.
That's correct. I'm unsure what happens if you load it using s deifferent device and then try to pair with an iOS 9 device. I imagine it just won't work.

I think the way the apps worked on the Watch prior to Watch OS 3 is the issue. But I could be wrong. I'm not as well versed with AW as I could be. Always learning

You and ever other public beta (and AppleSeed) tester. iOS 10 with is wOS 2 is fine (except for the wOS 3 features that don't work). It is just the other way around.

What do you mean? What differences does it make if someone doesn't update the watch they are selling? The buyer can just update it.
You missed my point, it was stated WO3 is part of iOS 10 but I have iOS 10 installed but their is no WO3 for me to upgrade, the watch app just says I'm up to date on 2.2.2
Reread, I address your point 100% exactly. In order for wOS 3 to run it requires iOS 10 because of the integral features that are only found in iOS 10. See my part about wOS 3 features you have in iOS 10 that don't work until you get wOS 3 (tomorrow).
You will definitely lose your jailbreak. I did. I purchased my Apple Watch and the previous owner installed the latest software on it. I tried pairing it to my iPhone 6s 9.0.2. and got a message I would have to install the latest software on my iPhone. I was didn't want to, but I did. I am hoping a jailbreak for iOS 10 will be released soon. Oh well, at least my iPad Air 2 is still jailbroken.Well that sucks. I'm going to have to lose my jailbreak
If I update my old watch to OS 3 does that reduce my pool of prospective buyers to a degree that should give me pause? I'm not sure I can wait til my new watch arrives to try out os3
I hope there is a jailbreak soon I waited so long to jb iOS 9. My iPad is jb but it's not the same. I might as well have bought the iPhone 7
I still have my iPhone 6+ which I downloaded iOS 10 on. I'll be using that until iOS 10 is jail broken and I can go back to my 6s+
I have iOS 10.0.1 beta the final release beta. When the real iOS 10 comes out tomorrow will I get the update? Or will I have to jump through some hoops to make it happen since the beta don't come with ios3 for the watch.
