    Hey,

I have a Windows XP disc but it doesnt have Service Pack 1 which I'm told is essential for Boot Camp.

So can I install XP and then install SP1?

Just wondering if this was possible without causing any problems

    Thanks!

All that looks so complicated, what would happen if i just install Windows XP without any service pack?

Simply put: It won't install at all.

    System requirements

To use Boot Camp with Mac OS X 10.5 you need the following:

    * An authentic, 32-bit Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 (or later) disc
    or
An authentic, 32-bit Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate disc

Important: For a Windows XP installation, your Microsoft Windows XP installation disc must include Service Pack 2 (SP2).

You'll be able to install Windows XP Service Pack 1 but it'll be broken. A lot of the drivers for hardware seem to have the most trouble.

The instructions are a bit tedious but this guide covers most of the steps.

Note: On the latest version of nLite you can burn a disc within the application itself. You can safely ignore the Roxio bit at the bottom.

Can't I just install Windows XP and then soon as I've done it, just install Service Pack without connecting to the internet or anything

surely that must be possible, cant it?

    Thanks!

Another user tried to install XP Service Pack 1 and upgrade to 2. It didn't work.

It's really confusing on how to merge the CD or whatever together...

Is there a REALLY SIMPLE guide?

Doesn't get any easier than this.

Take the contents of your XP CD and put them on the drive and then follow the steps from there.

So do I go ahead and do that on my other Windows PC, obviously and prepare a CD with XP and SP2 downloaded from Microsoft?

Essentially... all that software is doing is merging XP from CD and SP2 downloaded and putting them on a disc?

    Am I right?

    Thanks for the help guys!

I guess that the hotfix site had a little more content then I go there for.

Yes, it's rather simple. You copy the contents off of the older disc, merge in Service Pack 2 from the link I provided, and then burn a new disc with Service Pack 2!
