I’m considering pulling the trigger on a Zugu Muse case for my iPad Pro 11 (2018). Just one thing is holding me back. I have concerns that when you flip the cover back to work in stand mode the side that is resting against your screen is then laying on your desk. I’m worried that environments I work in aren’t always clean and the case could pick up debris and then scratch my screen. I don’t use a screen protector. I don’t want to have to think about wiping down a surface every time I whip out my iPad.

I don’t know why reviewers never mention this. Possibly because they haven’t used it for very long before they post. But it appears to be an obvious flaw to me.

So now that you have owned one for a while, how do you find it? Does it pick up debris? Have you scratched your screen (even micro scratches)? Do you have to be particularly conscious of checking the cover for any debris before closing it? Do you need to wipe the inside of the case cover?

Thanks in advance.

My case has cat hair on it, but no other debris that I can see. There are no scratches on the screen. That said, we only use it at home these days.

I suppose you could get a screen protector to use with it.

I have the case on my 12.9, I also however have a screen protector. I use it at work (auto mechanic/ manager) and it does pick up debris in my work environment. It does at home too if I put it on a table or something, we have kids and they know how you to generate a mess, the zugu will not repel it. I do brush it off each time if I notice crunchy stuff, even though I have a screen protector.

I’ve used their cases for years, including this one on my 12.9 iPad Pro. As @Hustler mentions just brush it off if you see debris on it when you go to close it. Never had any scratches, occasionally dog hair that the cover picked up but that’s it. I’ve never used screen protectors on anything but if you’re concerned a sheet of paper could be laid upon the screen as you shut it. It ships with a very thin letter sized sheet in the case that I did use for a while on my initial case and ipad but gave up on even doing that. I just brush the crumbs, and dog hair, off it when I close it. I consider the Zugu cases to be the very best ipad cases there are if you don’t need a keyboard case.

I decided to buy the case. My old case had broken so I was due for a replacement and I managed to get a Muse for US$29.99.

My previous case was a Speck Balance Protective Slim Folio https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07HZF1157/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Unfortunately a lot of iPad cases use the small triangle fold for the base like the original Apple case. I have used these before and I find them terribly unstable. The Speck and Muse both overcome this in different ways. I also like the clasp on the Speck which works well and ensures the cover doesn’t inadvertently open. The Speck uses a hard plastic shell, and this cracked on the corners. I took my iPad out of the case perhaps five times over two years and never dropped it. Clearly a weakness in the design.

First thoughts on the Muse after using it for just a couple of hours. I like the soft rubber surround (with one exception, see below), it feels like it would probably protect better than a hard plastic. The buttons are really really good, very tactile with no false presses. The magnets are impressively strong which gives a solid base, better than the Speck. I understand reviews on Amazon complaining about the right side peeling away when you hold it without a pencil in the slot. I virtually never use my iPad in that configuration so I don’t envisage it to be a problem. I do agree with the reviews pointing out that the cover doesn’t automatically line up when you close it, I expect this to be a constant source of frustration. I haven’t got the hang of pulling out the rear stand yet and find it tricky to grab hold of, I hope this becomes second nature in time.

And what I originally queried? (The base picking up detritus). I don’t know yet, I suspect this will become clear to me after a long period of use.

I question the value proposition though, and wouldn’t recommend a Muse at full price compared to other options.
