That's because you haven't used the Plus version like I do. My thumb barely reaches half of the screen and coupled with the added weight of the phone most of the time I am worried about it slipping from my hand while trying to reach around the screen and exerting pressure at the same time

I have the 6S+ and have no issues handling the phone with one hand (usually my left), much less triggering force touch (which I find faster and easier to initiate than long press). No case, no screen protector, just the way Apple intended it to be used.

I find my 7 plus and the 6s and 6 plus I had before to be quite slippery when naked but once in a case they are easy to hold and I never feel as though I'm going to drop it. I have small hands.

Maybe because you have large hands. It's quite difficult for me to hold and nearly always I end up activating the icon placement function or spotlight. But there is no way I am going to the smaller size now. I saw the display quality of both and the sharpness and brightness was better on the Plus

Next time I need a definition of what an Internet forum is I will be sure to look you up. The trading back and forth looks like a lot of people trying to convince others their point of view is correct. I only suggested something simple as a solution. If Androids solution is better then it's worth exploring.

I have used a Plus and personally don't like it due to its size so you're right in that it's not an issue for me personally. Do you find you drop it more when trying to use 3D Touch then? I don't get the impression the Plus was ever designed for one handed use unless you have enormous hands.

Yes I do. And I know you are lying when you say it's easy to activate the app switcher using 3DT. I tried it and it's got a success ratio of less than 10% in my case. The amount of effort it takes is way more than just double clicking the home button

You missed the part where I agreed this applies to any platform. However, enough apps support it...most "big name" apps support 3Dt.


This can't be customized without developer support. The actions that are listed in any secondary menu have to be PROGRAMMED by the app developer. I can make up any type of menu option for any app and then complain on an on-line forum it's not supported as well. Contact the app developer, or leave a suggestion on the app store is all I can suggest.


To each their own use case. 3DT is instant and works well. I use peek and pop in scanning email messages and use peek and pop in going through MacRumors threads. You're "failure" to see 3dt being superior to long press, does not diminish my use case in any way.

And as I pointed above peek and pop doesn't work on third part browsers like Firefox or chrome and it doesn't work in Inbox and Outlook and it's been 2 years yet they don't seem to care about it. On the flip side almost all apps on Android support long press and it can be customised to my needs

And I commend Google for giving legacy devices this long press right click because it's better than what my iPhone 6 got which is nothing

The functions they support are useless and inconsistent is the point. And peek and peek and pop is unsupported almost 2 years from launch.

According to you...according to me they are useful and very much supported. Peek and pop works well in emails on websites, photos etc. places it makes sense. If it doesn't suit you turn it off, it's a great feature much quicker and useful than long press due to pressure sensitivity; nobody is telling you to use it.

You just proved my point that it works only in Apple's apps as what you just stated doesn't work on third party apps. Google Photos does not support peek and pop nor does Chrome.

I don't mind discussing the same topics over and over as after all they are why we come here... Looking for the perfect phone, the perfect OS, we ain't ever gonna find them but personally I enjoy flipping the coin a million times while looking for the best possible setup for myself.

What is a shame though is when people can't help themselves taking offence when someone criticises something they like, and starting to embed personal attitudes in their posts. That's when it all goes south. But that's the internet for ya. Best we can do I think is to simply hit 'Ignore' rather than reply to those posters, and go about our business as usual.

I don't have issues with new iOS devices. Troubles only crop up he moment they start becoming older. I like being in multiple ecosystems amd considering the iPhone was standard flagship prices and I could afford it easily I bought one. Also I have a Apple Watch which would have been rendered useless if I go Android.

Although this all could change this September because paying more than 1K for a phone is sṭreching it for me personally

More deflections, I already proved a 3rd party app I have supports peek and pop. One use case proves your "opinions" wrong.

3dt is a great addition for additional flexibility in interacting with the screen based on pressure applied allowing for infinite customization. Don't like it, don't use it.

I very clearly stated here that 3DT in these use cases works in only Apple's apps and said your assertions on using peek and pop in emails and photos are wrong because in both use cases the top apps on the store do not support it and to tell me an app which does and syncs with Windows. They will, When was the last time the iPad design was changed? Not since the iPad 2 really, they've just been made thinner with smaller bezels, that's pretty much it.
The Apple Watch design is on its second year, and the iMac and Mac Pro are a few years old now, and let's not forget the Mac Pro internals haven't been updated since launch let alone its design!! The only thing they've done with that in the UK is inflate the prices by £500 in the name of Brexit... yeah right I'm sure they must be making a loss on a four year old computer 🙄
Oh and I nearly forgot about the Mac Mini.... I think the MacBooks are the only new computer designs in the last four years?

If the iPhone 8 is anything like this, it would be a great start at bringing me back to Apple. Too bad these rumors are being dampened by the possibility that this could only be available in a third and significantly more expensive tier.

I really want the function bar to happen for the iPhone. It would effectively be software keys.

It's crap like this that enrages me against Apple. Many don't know that this already exists, but you have to be jailbroken to use it. The App is called Eclipse 4 and it provides an almost flawless dark mode. You can even pair it with Noctis which makes the dark mode even deeper into things like the notification and control center. Even with this it's still not 100% dark, the only OS which has a dark theme 100% right is Windows. Windows high contrast mode absolutely trounces anything else, it's one of the primary reasons no one will ever pry my surface tablet from my cold dead hands.

The Play Store figured it out -- you just check the box "do not warn again." Instead, if I'm stuck somewhere without WiFi, I can't download "large" apps on my iPhone. What if my monthly data cycle has restarted or even if I have unlimited data?

I could go on with other examples. I think using Android today is, for the most part, simpler, more intuitive, and in some areas more software-oriented than iOS (software-oriented meaning examples like gesture typing versus thumb tapping, or double-tapping the app switcher button to quickly switch between two apps versus force touching the left side of the screen then sliding to switch between two apps in iOS).

As exciting as the new hardware prospects are for the iPhone, I'm hoping the software improvements aim to catch up, too. Even simple things like allowing us to customize Control Center would be nice.

Lucky for you, I think Dark mode has a good chance of being introduced with the iPhone 8. Just like in the concept video, it'll look great with the edge-to-edge design.

Another note regarding the concept video: I honestly am surprised not more people are excited about the function bar.

For me the function bar adds yet another inconsistency in IOS very much like 3DT....works great sometimes....then sometimes you get nothing. I forget 3DT is even there to be honest. Even some of Apple's own built in apps give useless information. I can see the function bar being the same thing if 3DT is any indication. It seesm like another added complexity.
Let me arrange my icons anyway I want in IOS and the function bar might not be needed.....

The android app store is much nicer. For me the glaring example of how much better it is, is that I can browse and purchase google apps from my PC. On iOS you either have to do it right on the phone, or you have to install that joke of a program iTunes, which was relevant in what, 2007?

I'm also not holding my breath for any kind of dark mode in the ip hone 8. Apple will put their substantial R&D and technology might into.... making more Emojis. Seriously, that's what it always comes down to, making more freakin Emojis. So now when my wife yells at me because my glaring iPhone wakes her up, I simply tell her that Apple now has 3 bazillion Emoji's and she totally understands and goes back to sleep.

Now don't get me wrong, Google is just as guilty with their "material" design, which is garbage IMO. One of the few things I appreciated from Samsung was their theme market and the ability to have a halfway decent dark theme, but still not great.

As for the function bar, I don't know if it will be a good thing. Firstly it's a loss of screen real estate, and that's by far the most precious thing on phones. At least with Android nav bar it gets out of the way when you full screen video and games and such, and you can apply apps and hacks to get rid of it or change functions. Apple's function bar seems like it will be there permanently, so it better provide some incredible functionality. My gut tells me it will be an overhyped "3d touch is really a long press" situation, so I'm not really psyched.
