No. Lotto is a tax on the mathematically challenged.

Well was the money taxed? In Canada there is no tax and there's way less people so the big jackpots are about $30m.

..And no I don't play, I'm too young. :p

don't play the lottery and at times when the pot is big, I think about buying a ticket for the helluvit, but I forget.

I HATE it though when I'm in a gas station to buy a bag of chips and there's some dumb lady that's buying a six pack of beer, asking for 6 types of cigarettes for her whole family and then ON TOP OF THAT, buying ten lotto tickets.

It's happened to me many times and I just want to kill them!

I don't buy lotto tickets because I know I'm not going to win (I'll wait to be struck by lightning ten times first ;)).

I'm happier keeping my dollar. :p :)

I've entered myself into pools at work a few times, but that's about it.

I should play every now and then. You've got a better chance at winning if you play than if you don't

Yes, US lottery winnings are subject to income tax.

Also, the jackpot stated is not actually what you win. The guy doesn't actually win $270 million. He wins a 26 year (in the case of lotto) annuity who's accumulated value is $270 million. If he chooses a lump-sum payment he gets lots less, something like $140 million.

What a shame....winning only $140 million instead of the original $270 million ;)

If it were me, I'd take the lump sum....am I really going to miss $130 million when I still have another $140 million to play with? :D

I think ill go with ten million every year for 26 years, instead. That's just me. wahtever you don't need give to charity. The government isn't going to do any better with $140 million than you are.

Well, figure the government will take half of that, so you're now down to $70 million.

Sometimes. When the Euro Millions gets upto £96 Million ($100 Trillion Million Billion :p) then I can't help but splash a fiver.

That makes it worth a go , even 5 numbers + 1 bonus number would keep you smiling with a share of £96 million :D , wasn't it split between 16 winners or something that didn't match all numbers, the lucky swines

would £96 million keep you happy or ruin your life, i'd prob be dead inside a month.

No, because my odds don't usually come in the form of GOOD luck. I just end up with incredibly rare medical conditions and hear a lot of "wow, I've never heard of that happening to anyone before."

<le sigh>

I only purchase when it is over $100 million, an then, only if I have a few extra bucks. I thankfully have 4 lotteries to deal with, the Washington State Lotto, Mega Millions, The Oregon State Lottery, and Powerball.

Yeah I play, never won more than £10 though!

If I won it I would buy 100 top spec Mac Pros, connect them all together and make a huge super computer :D

i don't, because i don't see much point personally.

perhaps i should just give it a random go here and there though for the heck of it.

I buy a powerball ticket sometimes when the jackpot is over $200 million or so. I know I'm not going to win, but it's worth $1 to me to sit and daydream for a few days about what I'm going to do with all that money!
