Has anyone else not turned their phone on??? I figure it will stay in pristine condition if I just never use it. I find it funny how you see threads like this about a $200-$300 phone but not on a $1000-$2300 computer. I think it's too easy to post on this forum. you should have to take a small IQ test first.

I think it's my OCD. :) I have had headphone jacks wear out and started to make scratchy noise when you turn the jack. But that was many many years ago. You guys never had noisy headphone jacks? Ever?

It will ring externally, but it won't play the new email alert externally if headphones are plugged in.

(I'm not sure about the new text alert....... anyone?)

If its on vibrate, it rings through the headphones but not the external speaker. Maybe thats what you were thinking about?

Wondering how many of you plug and unplug your headphones each time you use it? I leave mine plugged in because I don't want to wear out the jack. What do you do?

Simple solution, A2DP baby.. Bluetooth stereo headphones.

I unplug mine because when I'm done using it as an iPod, it goes back to being a phone. That was the same thing I did with the 3GS and I never wore out the jack, FWIW.

Things that will break on your iPhone: The screen, the glass, the ringer switch, the antenna, the sleep/wake button, the proximity sensors, the OS, etc...

Thing that won't: The headphone jack

lol trust me you aren't going to be able to wear out the headphone jack, I own one of the very first iPods that Apple made, these things are like 9 years old, it's taken an absolute beating over the years and it's been used A LOT and the headphone jack feels about as tight as my iPhones

I listen to music on mine at my desk all day. Whenever someone walks up to talk to me, I unplug the headphones first, then take them out of my ears. Unplugging automatically pauses. I did this with my 3GS for the entire time I owned it and had no problems with my headphone jack. Or my headphones for that matter.
