I've never owned a butterfly keyboard MacBook (went from a 2015 MBP to the M1 MBA), but I was wondering which keyboard do you generally prefer? I've tried fidgeting the the butterfly keyboards in stores and although they didn't have a lot of travel they seemed ok in terms of tactile feel and actually seemed fun to type on.

Anyone else want an M1 Mac with butterfly keys?

The Magic Keyboard is a million times better! I absolutely hated the butterfly keyboard and all of the issues that came along with it.

I prefer the magic keyboard. I didn't hate typing on the butterfly keyboard, but I much prefer typing on the magic keyboard. Even if I did like using the butterfly keyboard more, I would never buy another Mac with it.

Hopefully Apple would not launch a M1 laptop with the butterfly keyboard. The butterfly keyboard has a terrible reputation which is completely deserved. It's a terrible design that Apple was unable to make reliable even with like four different revisions. It could potentially cast a negative light on the future of Apple Silicon.

The butterfly keyboard for me was an absolute joke, I was going on my 4th in just over a year. The new magic keyboard is much more reliable and a better experience for me typing. Never want that style to come back.

depends a little 2017 MBP hideous, 2019 MBP not too bad, but new keyboard definitely better.

I have the last version of the butterfly keyboard, and, thankfully, it’s not had any issues. My 2018 MBA had issues in the first 4 months.

To be honest, I wish I’d been able to get the new magic keyboard, but I needed a computer for a graduate program and got a 2019 MBP.

I prefer the original version of the scissors keyboard on my 2015 MacBook Pro.
I think the 2020 Intel and m1 MacBook Pro's have a redesigned version...

The original 2012 15" Retina MBP had one of the best keyboards I have ever used in a portable. I then 'upgraded' to a late 2016 15" MacBook Pro which had the 1st generation Butterfly keyboard and is probably the worst laptop keyboard I have ever used. My new M1 Magic Keyboard is not as good as the 2012 MBP retina, but infinitely better that the 2016 MBP.

I’m on my second 2017 MBP 15”, and I miraculously never had any issues with the keyboards, given that I used to bring my computer everywhere, and never babied it. I don’t like the sound it makes, and prefer the older keyboard which I think is the best laptop keyboard ever made, that and the Thinkpads. Haven’t tried the new one yet, and won’t for many years, or until my current 2017 dies.
