Do you regret getting a Plus size phone?

Regret, I have been waiting a for the plus sized Xs max since first taking the iPhone X out of the box.

Plus sized iPhone since since 2014.

I had a 6 Plus, 6s Plus and a 7 Plus. Even if the iPhone X supposedly has a larger screen then the plus size phones. It still feels like such a tiny phone.

Just my thoughts there. But I'm probably use to the plus size phone after so many years of using one.

Sorry, I only called you “he” because someone else did. :D

Lol it’s no biggie at all - just thought I’d mention it.

I had all of the above and an 8+ also because I didn’t want an X and was thinking I’d hold out as long as possible with my Touch ID and favorite form factor. The X Max got me though. At least I think so. I mean I might hate it and wanna return it.

I have an 8 Plus and it's a great device. But it is a bit much to tote around and it is hard to use one-handed comfortably. I really like it. Recently though, I bought an iPhone SE and I'm loving it. Yes, the screen is much smaller but I can see it just fine, and I can use the phone with one-hand without any discomfort for long periods of time.

Right now my 8 Plus is still with me but has been relegated to home duty as a mini-tablet. The SE, however, goes with me wherever I am. When I'm out and about, I don't miss the big screen of the 8 Plus at all. The little SE does all the stuff I need a phone to do, without the bulk or extra weight.

Tonight I actually ordered a backup SE in case this one stops working for some reason. I want a small phone to last me for the next 3 - 4 years, and I didn't want to take a chance that I couldn't get another SE quickly since it has been discontinued.

I respect the folks that prefer larger screens and don't mind carrying them around. I did that for a while, but I'm just sick of it. It has been years since I last used a 4-inch phone and I really missed it. I know that I'm swimming against the tide of giant phones, but that's okay. I'll use me SE phone for as long as I possibly can and hope that Apple someday puts out another small phone for people like me.

I upgraded from the 6 plus to the iphone X last year and missed the larger screen. I've just preordered a max.

I'm female and can't use the iphone X one-handed, so using the max won't be any different in that regard.

I originally balked at the price, but I realized that last year I spent $950 on my 8+ because I got a 256 gb version. I’m only using about 27 gigs, so to buy the X Max 64 was only $150 more, which equated to about $4-5 a month on my IUP, so I figured why not. It’s my absolutely most used device. However, this is certainly my top end. I doubt I’d ever pay more for a phone than this.

I haven’t really considered the weight, but I don’t think the Max is that much heavier than the 8+. If so, I may be returning it and holding out for the XR.

The pocketability is a non-issue for me because I have never put a phone in my pocket, but I know that’s a big issue for a lot of people.

Yeah I got a really good deal for my 7 Plus last year at around $550 for 256 GB. Since you're coming from an 8 Plus, 6 extra grams will probably not mean much difference to you. Believe me if it wasn't for the weight difference I would probably be 100% on board of the Max but once someone on here mentioned the weight difference between 7+ and Max, it kinda sealed the deal for me and have been back and forth all weekend lol. Also you mentioned that you're on the IUP and getting the 64gb which probably helped as well. I was paying in full and need 256 GB as i'm currently at 71 GB of my 256gb, soooo everything kinda hit me all at once. 128 would've been perfect but apple being apple...

One thing i've thought back and forth about is the fact that the 7 Plus NAKED is 20 grams less and with my silicone case being 1.6oz... maybe thats where all the extra weight is coming from? I cant have the 7+ naked as its too slippery, but maybe if I rocked the Max naked I could deal with it....

This is actually really interesting. I never realized how many people still like and use the SE. How long did it take you to adjust to the smaller screen? Was it hard? I mean if you can readjust to the SE, I should have no problem adjusting to the X I assume.

Ahh interesting a nuanced opinion. So after using the X you missed the larger screen of the plus?

So you would go Xs rather than Xs Max?

Overall yes, there are things I miss about a bigger phone (games and video specifically) but I prefer the one handed use for anything else I do with the phone. Still I imagine I’ll love the XS Max when I see it on Friday.

I went to an 8+ this past year and I do love the bigger phone. I'd be lying, however, if I said there were not times that I wish I had the smaller phone; particularly when I pull my phone out while I'm waiting in line in a store, and I have items to purchase in the other hand; I miss being able to one-hand the phone.

I even went back and forth in my mind between the XS and the XS Max. I ended up with the XS Max, but I was very, very tempted by the XS because that smaller size again was a big draw. What sealed the deal for me is that the XS screen is narrower than the 8+ screen, and preferring larger type I need wider screens. I'm not a huge fan of the trend towards adding "inches" to a screen simply by extending the vertical length. I feel like if we're not careful we'll get a 13" screen that's 1" wide. The iPhone Ruler.

So, I am going with the XS Max. It's still technically smaller than my 8+ in both width and height, so I'm happy with it. I bought an apple leather case for it as I'm using an apple silicone case on my 8+ currently. I think the physical dimension difference will be negligible.

This is all old news for any X user I am sure.

I was thinking of getting the smaller XS until I played with an X for the first time today (I’m still on a 6+) the smaller screen really struck me as iOS didn’t seem make the best use of the extra space.

I was fiddling round with the X in store today and noticed on Safari that the address bar extended quite far down the screen and when using a keyboard there’s a huge empty patch at the bottom as well as a lower bar at the top which resulted in a surprisingly small area of screen reserved for actual usage. It felt very claustrophobic. The notch didn’t bother me but the sheer amount of wasted space made me genuinely rethink my choice as I’ve reserved the smaller XS in store. I might have to go in on Friday before my appointment and have a play about with the larger phone.

I was all ready to change down too. I could hold the whole phone in one hand, it fit in my pocket without interfering how I walk (let alone going up stairs) it’s a real pain in the arse as I’ve already ordered some XS cases to tryout...

Maybe, but I assume that most people knew that was coming last year, but he had originally planned to keep his 8 Plus anyway. I’m just wondering if there’s more to it.

I have an 8 Plus as well so I’m just wondering why people are choosing to replace it, so I can decide if any reason makes sense to me, maybe even one I hadn’t considered.
Also have the 8 plus which without question is a fantastic all round phone, I'm also thinking about getting the Xs, my reason being the size and weight of carrying the plus around, it's just not practical for mobile use, it's more a home phone, the Xs max is the same size and even a bit heavier and you will notice this, i noticed the weight difference from the 7plus to the 8plus, so you will notice it and definitely notice it coming from an X or even a 7plus, hope this helps.

For me, the 8+ was to get me by until the XSM. The camera issues with the 7+ were so bad. The X was too thin. The price of that XSM though...

Regret is all over the place with me, but I believe that I know what I want now and that I am going to be very happy on Friday.

I had the 6+ and almost returned it after a few days because it was so big, but didn’t and a few weeks later, I loved the size.
I traded up to the 6S partially because my contract was up, it was the plan that I could afford and my husband was getting the same deal. However, I found the 6S too small now after having had the 6+. I had it for the year and then upgraded to the 7+. I loved the 7+.
Then the X was announced and it was a premium phone and I just had to get one with all the future components that were not in the regular iPhone line. I really like the X, but do wish that the screen was larger and wider in particular. If there had of been a X+ at the launch of the X, then I would of had bought it then. I believed that a XS+ was going to come out the following year, but it didn’t stop me from getting the X while I waited.
So now that the XS Max is here, I’m very happy and excited to be returning to the Plus (or now the Max) sized screen. I’m also very excited to get 512GB, which is the other upgrade feature that I was after. Before I get asked again, I have a full 256GB X even though I use cloud storage for photos. I use local storage for video podcasts, lots of apps and games..and now I’ll have more storage for TV shows, adding more of my apps which I had off loaded, more offline music and also then have extra space to record 4K video since now I record in 1080p for storage reasons. This will also be my first GOLD iPhone. The pictures and video of the gold XS Max look awesome, but I’m still nervous and excited to get gold this time.
I’ve ordered a clear Spigen liquid crystal case as well as the cape cod blue leather Apple case.

I'm still on my 4 year old 6 Plus. At first, I thought it was very awkward to use but it took some getting used to. I liked the ergonomics of past phones better. I'm upgrading to a regular XS as the screen is similar in size to my current phone but in a smaller casing so it will be a better fit. No need to go super-size this time around...

Honestly, I’ve never regretted it. If Apple hadn’t come out with the 6 Plus in 2014, I would have gotten a Note. The Plus sized phones are my preferred device.

Not long at all. In fact, I didn't adjust to it, I just started using it. I didn't give it a second thought. The smaller screen is not a big deal at all. It's just as usable as the 8 Plus and much more comfortable to carry and hold.

I had the 7, tried the X (loved the all screen but still felt small). Tried the 8 plus and after a bit of getting used to it, will never go back. The battery lasts me all day and then some vs the X was dead by 3pm without doing lots on it. I will miss the physical home button but looking for getting the larger screen/size of the phone with the new XS MAX (still a stupid name) should have been XS Plus

Love the plus sized lineup. I feel as if I've suffered through owning a X this past year, although other than the size I feel it's a phenomenal phone. I'm male and have average to larger size hands.

The X did have some positives though, one handed use was very easy and it was very pocketable.

Wow it’s nice to see someone on this forum excited as I am about the new iPhones. I know they’re very expensive but finally Apple potentially have them pretty well matching features of the Android phones I use. I’m excited about the new Apple Watch, too and look forward to having a nice pairing with my 256 GB gold Max. I would love to get 512 GB, but if I update next year for the next model, I would not get my money’s worth. It would take me about a year and a half to fill 512 GB. I’m just not sure what’s going to happen with 5G. Or whether or not we get triple lens camera modules or further display upgrades that may mitigate pwm flicker.

I’ve got a clear Ringke case on order and I’m trying to decide what color Apple leather case I will want. I won’t buy the Apple leather case until I’m sure my vision can get along with the OLED display and any flicker it might have. I had trouble with the one on my X. I may end up with an Xr.

When I went from a 6 to a 7+ it only felt big for like 2 days before feeling natural. Most of my friends have the Plus too so when I come across the normal size models it feels tiny. I think the XS Max taking the screen size to the full dimensions of the Plus was a no-brainer. More screen for the same device volume. I went with the regular XS this time around since the screen is the same as the Plus, but in the future I might explore getting a Max.

I personally hate the plus size phones, I’ve had one for work and it was not for me - I find the 6s I currently own personally is as big as I want to go for a phone, obviously the Xs I’m picking up Friday is slightly bigger but I don’t have a choice there do I!

I have no use for a massive screen and although it would be nice every now and then for videos while travelling the size of the thing outweighs that for me. The size of my 6s already threatens to ruin the pockets of my jeans!

I just prefer the portability of the smaller size phone.
