Sold my 13 pro and went to a mini. I had always planned to upgrade to the 14 pro if the notch was eliminated, so I figured I’d try it for a while before 14s released. Honestly, I love it. I may still go to a 14 pro if I really love the way the screen looks without the notch, but it won’t be easy, and it might be the first time I keep an extra phone.

Sure. This is only my own personal experience, but I would not let that stop you from moving to a Mini.
It is a fabulous piece of tech and mostly Face ID is pain free. 👍

For example in Apple Pay.
With Touch ID I just needed to place my iPhone near the scanner, finger on the button, wallet pops up and *ding* it pays. That helps when you use an in store app to scan as you go along to self checkout.

With Face ID, to use Apple Pay you have to double click the power button, then Wallet displays, then look at the phone to confirm ID… and it does not always work smoothly. Especially when it asks you to input your password now and then…
When using an in store app to scan items, the double clicking of the power button can confuse some apps…

With Touch ID "Raise to wake" with my finger on the button takes me straight in to the home screen.
With Face ID you need an extra swipe up…

Touch ID identifies you whether you are wearing glasses, sunglasses, masks, brightest sunlight or in complete darkness.
Face ID sometimes gets it wrong. If the light is too bright — on the beach for example. I have it 75% working with glasses and sunglasses and masks, but it does not really get that I like to wear different styles of sunglasses.

However, all that being said, I did get used to it. And mostly (mostly!) Face ID works well. It is amazing technology.

Still, I wish they would incorporate the Touch ID in to the power button.

Of course YMMV and you'll probably hear from some people who will claim 100% success rates with Face ID… well… yeah. I'm not one of those "lucky" ones.

This ^^^

I do still feel that Touch ID is better than Face ID...I like that Touch ID gets me to my home screen faster, and I find it more convenient for Apple Pay. But that being said I have found Face ID to be reliable. I also wear an Apple Watch, and I just use that for Apple Pay. I also find that Face ID works REASONABLY well with a mask on...but I have the Apple Watch also set to unlock the phone for me, so it's a safety net. I do miss the home button, but I've gotten more comfortable with the gesture-based interface over time.

All that being said, I do not regret moving from the SE 2020 to the mini. I like the size better, I get much better battery life, and the camera is a big improvement. It's just not an improvement in every single area, but it is generally in most. My wife has also moved from her SE 2016 to the 13 mini, and I believe she would say something similar (though with regards to the size I think she'd just say that the mini isn't that much different than her SE).

You know what has been an unexpected pleasure is back-tap. I have double-back-tap set to show me my blood sugar reading, and I have triple-back-tap set to bring me straight to Wordle. I sometimes wish the back-tap were more sensitive, but that might be a "careful what you wish for" thing, I don't know.

What sorcery is this!?

That's fantastic! Just set it up to take me to the Camera.

I never knew…

Thanks! 👍

You're welcome!

If you or anyone else reading this are into Shortcuts...you can also assign a back-tap to a Shortcut.

I have a 13 PM, and I tried the mini, but I was reminded of why I wanted a big screen back in the days of the 5S and prior. I love the big screen for everything: text, photos, videos, etc. The weight and size of the big phone doesn’t bother me at all. The mini is too small for me, so I returned it.
