And those knobs that stick out of the sides of the keyboard/trackpad... Kinda like Frankenstein neck bolts? Do they plug into the charger somehow? Will they react to anything else in the vicinity of the charger pad? And, as if I have that kind of desk landscape to donate to something that big... Now, building it into the desk would work...

Completely agree! I think for now, I'll stick to killing mother earth with my batteries...

Wireless batteries

I use rechargeable batteries exclusively and they will last months in my wireless mice and magic trackpads. I still use a wired keyboard for the numeric pad and USB convenience. You must however use high quality rechargeables, not the ones you find in the big box stores. Personally I use PowerEx/Maha batteries. I am also involved with high end AV, specifically wireless mics and we use rechargeables almost exclusively and have found the PowerEx to be a very capable rechargeable that will last several years.

All the time. The batteries on the keyboard last about 3 months and the batteries on the mouse last about 2, they both connect in a few seconds when the mac is on and when booting up the mac they are both fully functional when it is on (About 10 seconds)

Of course I'm still using my wireless keyboard and mouse and done so for years. I wouldn't even think about going back to the corded variety unless I was suddenly getting really poor performance.

A couple years ago I started experimenting with rechargeable batteries and found the Energizer ones to be horrible. I switched to Duracell rechargeable batteries and the difference was night and day. They had great performance and even kept their charge while in storage. I've also heard good things about Eneloop rechargeable batteries and wouldn't hesitate to use them either.

Wired keyboard with numerical pad and Magic Mouse (with rechargeable Eneloop) for the iMac

Wireless keyboard/MM for Mac Mini (more Eneloops). There are always some pair in the charger, ready to be replaced. No hassle.

Nope, that's the first thing that I put away. I do like the wireless keyboard, but the magic mouse is a pain while coding. I use the Performance MX mouse instead. Both at work, and at home.

I still use and like the Apple wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse. You just have to always have recharged batteries on hand. I have no need to look elsewhere.

Wireless mouse and keyboard. While they stay within a couple feet of the computer there are still enough USB wires floating around for external HDD and Printer (I need a new one, eh), and iDevices.

Update:

Ironically, I have been having trouble pairing my keyboard since this post. I had to turn off bluetooth on all devices near my keyboard and pair it again with my iMac (after lots of troubleshooting). It appears the main culprit is the Apple TV. It continues to default to the TV whenever the ATV is set to pair so I'll have to manually turn it off and on in settings whenever I want to use it with ATV. Ugh.

I've been using a combination of wireless keyboard/ magic mouse and trackpad with my 27 inch late 2012 model and I have found that this combination works best for me.

I'm still using the wireless keyboard/mouse that came with my iMac but each day I get closer to ditching the keyboard for a wired one as I'm too impatient to wait for it to wake when the iMac wakes. :)

When my iMac does it's wake-up the keyboard seems to work right off. I have the wireless keyboard. I am somewhat new to OS X and am just learning about all the little annoying things like battery life etc. The wireless mouse on my PC's seem to last into years, not weeks or months. But I do enjoy my iMac and learning new ways of computing !

I use the wireless keyboard and track pad and i am loving it!! When i got my new iMac i also got the Eneloop Super Power Pack to go with it.

I love my Logitech K811 backlit BT keyboard and Logitech Performance Mouse MX (configured with BetterTouchTool).

I'm still on my original Apple wireless keyboard (acrylic with white keys) with Magic Mouse. Eneloops all around.

For the rare occasion that I really need to type a lot, I also have a Tactile Pro keyboard plugged in.

I like my wireless keyboard and find the batteries rarely need changing. I bought an Apple battery charger with rechargeable batteries so I am all set whenever I do need new ones.

As for the magic mouse, I immediately replaced it with a Logitech wireless Performance Mouse MX and I love it. It's very comfortable to use, works well for gaming and is very convenient to recharge. It comes with a USB recharge cable that plugs into the front of the mouse and allows you to continue using it as a wired one while it charges up. I just keep that cable plugged into my iMac and plug the mouse in for recharges as needed. I am still on the battery it came with a year and a half ago. :D

As of now I have a Wired Keyboard and a Mighty Mouse, I've been thinking about getting a wireless keyboard, magic mouse, and magic trackpad, since I have an Egg Chair at my desk now, so I'd like to sit back and watch movies.

I still use the wireless keyboard for just about anything but games, but I prefer my old mouse to the Apple one (Magic Mouse). I love having wireless stuff again even though it comes with the price of having to think about battery usage.

I use a wired Apple keyboard (need the numeric keypad and the page up & down buttons, because those are the throttle controls for FlightGear), and a wired mouse. Saves me the hassle of replacing batteries. Besides, Bluetooth = radiation = kills body cells.

I worry about my health first :D

Logitech K750 solves the isse with numpad and batteries, it's a full keyboard and solar powered, been using it about 6 months now after smashing my apple wireless KB I got so fed up with.

No more wake from sleep or any such issues :D

Wireless keyboard w/ trackpad. I have 8 rechargeable batteries (4 in use / 4 charged and ready).

Works great.

I've managed to time mine for three sets - 1 set for the mouse, 1 for the keyboard and the other pre charged as spares (being held by my lego torch man... they fit perfectly in his hands)!

as soon as something goes, I switch them out and instantly charge the others, a couple of days later the other thing goes (keyboard or mouse) and do the same thing again. Both last around 2 months and I use them both for around 8 hours a day :)

Not all rechargeable batteries or chargers are equal

ENLOOP 1900mAh + Powerex MHC9000 charger -

Trackpad goes >1 month, KYBD >2months
