Yes, most certainly. I've never seen iPhone, even a 12 Pro Max, as a replacement for an iPad. No more than the iPad is a replacement for a laptop.

For me, my iPad is the go-to for web browsing, YouTube, and light productivity. iPhone is communication (calls and texts), music player, camera, maps, and other specific apps. Some overlap with things like social media emails.

I use my iPad Pro 11" along with my 12 Pro Max. iPad Pro is one of my favourite devices. Both were great buys for me.

My iPad has been and still is, my main computing device. Because no current iPhone can truly replicate the viewing experience of an iPad, I am compelled to focus on the iPad as the centre of my Apple ecosystem.

Working around the iPad, my preferred iPhone in the current lineup is the 12, mainly for its diminutive size, lightweight and ease of one-handed functionality.

These features aid me, in scenarios where the iPhone is a more practical tool than the iPad, in situations where I find myself limited by necessity, to using my device with only 1 hand.

Way back, the iPhone caused me to shelve the iPod... then, the larger screens on the iPhone caused me to give away my iPad.

Macbook and 12 Pro is all I use now.

I do use my iPad but that's not surprise for me given that I use the iPad in a different way compared to the phone. For starter texting for me is easier on an iPad with hardware keyboard than with the phone and relying on screen keyboard.

Browsing and reading is also a better experience on the iPad. Watching videos is better on an iPad. I also use my iPad a lot with the pencil (reading, taking notes). And I also use it with MindNode to create mindmaps (part of my brainstorming process).

In a nutshell when at home the phone is used for phone calls and well to test the camera. For everything else I prefer to use the laptop or the iPad.

If I am outside and the iPad is not with me (in the past I would gladly go to the mall, buy Latte and work on my iPad) I would rely on the phone. If the iPad is with me, the phone is still used only for calls and camera. And I guess occasionally for navigation.

I had a 6s plus for about 5 years, then upgraded to a 12 Pro Max. Never really wanted an iPad, but got one in 2018 to run an app that turns my 8-track field recorder into a mixing console. That works really well, and I also like the Logic Remote app that provides a control surface for Logic Pro, but haven't been doing any audio work recently. Played around with other apps on the iPad, but they don't do much for me. Got a keyboard case to see if it could work like a laptop but never learned to like it. Got an Apple Pencil and haven't used it for at least a year. I had a career as an artist and designer, but prefer doing that work on a big computer screen in multiple windows with a mouse. One of these days I should checkout sidecar but I have other things to do.

So, mostly, my iPad just sits around unused. Hadn't touched it in a couple months until I wanted to check a website I'm developing a few days ago. To each their own, for things like reading newspapers, the 12 Pro Max is much more satisfying for me. The iPad seems kind of klunky and heavy to hand-hold for very long.

iPad:
How do you hold it and use it at the same time? It's heavy and big.
How do you use it on a desk? It sits flat.

If you're going to use one of those keyboard case things to prop it up on a desk and type with it - why not use a superior MacBook instead?

To this day I don't understand the appeal of the iPad. It doesn't do anything well except doodling in a paint program with the pencil. I gave mine away. Didn't like using it.

I find my 12.9" 3rd gen iPad Pro to be very light for it's size, using it in the apple smart folio case is a different story though. Find myself using it without the case more and more these days, for a big boy tablet it's amazingly light.

MB, IPP 11, 12PM, Thinkpad (x2), Razer2 - they all are used a good bit.

I do a good bit of design and coding on my MB. I have found that with a Magic Keyboard and Pencil for my IPP11 it grants me a lot of flexibity to do work ad hoc. The touch screen and pencil add a good bit for me. It is a great intermediate device for me.

As for my MB, it is the only non touch screen device I have and I find myself reaching out to tap the screen all too often. 🤭😂😂😂.

fyi - I had the 12.9 IPP and elected to go to an 11 as it fit my use case better.

Indeed, I rarely use it in bed holding as it is heavy for me.

As I use the pencil a lot, indeed sitting flat on a desk is what I need. I personally like to read and annotate/highlight and for this I find the iPad/pencil combo quite useful.

If I am at home indeed in most cases I go to my laptop. However I do carry around my iPad as it is more portable than my laptop. In those cases I do take advantage of the keyboard. Also during trips I like that I can go by only with the iPad.

If there was no pencil I would not have bought an iPad indeed. I am not in need for a regular tablet. However I like to write down stuff and I would end up with a lot of notebooks and free papers that are hassle to organize. Having my notes digitally in the iPad is definitely an improvement for me. It helps that I can put my books there too and thus not carry paper copies.

For FaceTime, TV/movies and productivity apps, I use the magic keyboard. Yeah, it's like a laptop, but I don't need a MacBook when I have an iPad Pro and a Windows laptop for work.
For reading and playing games, I remove the iPad from its keyboard case and put it on my lap, prop it up with my knees, or just hold it in one hand and rest my elbow somewhere. The pencil is great for games like Scrabble (and for people like me who love the precision of touchscreen interactions, but don't like constantly cleaning fingerprints).

I purchased my iPad Pro 10.5" to use as a backup if and when I did not or could not have access to my Mac. I also have the Apple MK which helps when I type. But other than that, the iPad sits in its case on my bookshelf.

Probably a waste of money to have one and in hindsight I should not have purchased it. I will not be buying another iPad.

So another use case for me for the iPad I have. I have training at work this week related to SAFe (scaled agile framework for enterprise). Anyway the thing is that during the training we reference the official SAFe site and there are a lot of pictures/diagrams there. It is definitely cool to be able to screenshot them, add them in Notability and then annotate and write notes with the pencil during the training. I can write my notes on a paper notebook, but I would not have the time to do the diagrams myself. It is definitely easier to screenshot them from Safari.

every day ..

Oh yeah. Especially now that I have one again, I went three years without an iPad. When I had the ipad air 2 before i also used that. Now that I have a 12 PM and an iPad Air 4, I use the iPad during the day and the phone when I go out, in bed before I fall asleep, etc. Anytime I need portability the phone, when I don’t the iPad.

Whats funny though is when I want to see a movie, I try to use my phone more just because I love the look of the OLED screen over the LCD of iPad. But for other videos like YouTube or videos I don’t care for that quality then the iPad is more than sufficient.

No, I sold my iPad. As iPhones got bigger and MacBooks got smaller (with increased battery life), my need for an iPad was squeezed out of existence.

Nope. Had one. Sold it. I prefer a phone + laptop setup. Nothing against iPad, it's a solid device for some people. But when I want something bigger and more productive than my phone I much prefer the mouse and keyboard. Wife still uses her iPad though.
