Both the 13" and 15" are supremely portable. Pick up a laptop from 10 years ago and you'll realize just how portable these are. We didn't all have gym sessions back then for our laptops either, we just used them and carried them.

All the same, I prefer the 13". I'm getting older and considering the 15" for my next one but more likely I'll stick with 13". I'm out of the home about 5 night every two weeks and typically take my laptop with my in my backpack, and space is a bit of a premium. It's not a huge difference between the two though.

I have a second screen at home but rarely use it. The 13" is just fine for me.

In reality, both are super portable.
Nope. 2015 11” MBA is more portable than a 2024 13” MacBook “Air”, as is 2017 12” MacBook. I still use an 11” MBA for portability in addition to my home M1 MBA. M1 MBA is a boat.

Air 13 is hardly a boat. 11" screen is too small too.
aren't you the guy who said..
Yes. But if you have a larger laptop, you can't downsize unless you buy a smaller one. If I need to use a larger screen I just bring my 16" portable monitor along
so let me understand, to you, 11" is too small, 15" is too big, and 13" is the only size that makes any sense? You tell those that like the 15" they are wrong, and that like the 11" they are wrong, but 13...

shrugs. Like I have said, choice is good. I would never tell you that 13 was wrong for you.

True, I should have said "in general" when talking about laptops from 10 years ago. The 12" MacBook was an exceptional device.

I've just go the M5 15" Air and am yet to travel with it. I have a trip coming up in a couple of weeks and was seriously thinking of returning it for the 13". However, having read some of the excellent posts here I think I'll stick with the 15 and use my 11" iPad Pro when travelling. I could afford a 13 as well but just don't know what I'd do with it when I don't travel. I'm not "on the road" that often....

15 inches is fine for travel. Think of it this way if you were to get a pro 14” it would be heavier than the 15 inch air. Many people travel with the pro 14 inch just fine.

15-inch M4 MBA is far too big to travel with. It's the reason why I also bought a 13-inch M4 MBA. It's cheaper than buying a single MBP.

15: Connected to 49-inch monitor
13: Connected to 34-inch monitor

If I need to go out or travel, I bring the 13-inch and a BT mouse. Airline tray tables, trains, laps, it's just far easier to whip out with one hand.

I own both the 15-inch M4 MacBook Air and the 13-inch M4 MacBook Air.

I also bought the 13-inch M4 to take with me when I travel, but I realized that it's hard to get work done on the 13-inch compared to the 15-inch. So, I've been bringing my 15-inch out now and am happier. lol

Will never understand people who use one laptop as their desktop and then have a smaller laptop for travel…

If the past 5 years have taught people anything, it's the fact notebooks are more useful. Having more screen real estate also helps.

I have a big international trip coming up and my choice is the 14” M1 Pro or the 15” M4 Air. While I want to take the Air, I’ve settled on the MBP.

My main reason for not traveling with the Air is that I overstuff my backpack on longer trip, and I don’t trust that the 15” Air won’t get bent somehow. The MBP has a thicker stronger and travel ‘Calmin-tested’ chassis. Neither work well in a coach airline seat - I have tried.

The 15” Air will still be my next work/travel machine when the MBP retires, because I prefer the form factor and the power is enough. But while I still have the 14” that’s the one I reach for when packing.

I took mine to a cafe a week ago and had fun with it. AirPods, Apple Music, browsing the web... good stuff. I can't imagine having a 13" screen... way too cramped for me. The 15" can be a little cumbersome (depending on where you sit), but I'd take that in place of squinting at my screen.
