    Hi all,

I was wondering if you guys think that Apple will ever enable true push in iCloud email? Using something like Exchange ActiveSync.
By true push I mean not only push email but also update the icon badge when you read an email elsewhere. Currently that works for Exchange accounts but not for iCloud.

    Thanks,
    Pietro

Probably not since they have not done it already. It would be pretty easy for them to do so I assume they feel the way they are doing it is best for performance and/or battery life of your iOS device.

Doesn't really work for exchange, at least not instantly. New emails are instant, but clearing the badge when read elsewhere is periodic.

iCloud mail already supports IMAP idle which keeps a connection open with the server. However I think what you are referring to is the fact that iOS does not support IMAP idle - which is to save battery life.

iOS does support IMAP push though, which is also supported by iCloud mail. Which as you say does not keep a live connection to the server and therefore if changes are made elsewhere, the iOS device is unaware until you refresh the mailbox.

I think this is a fair compromise though. And it's also standards based, such that AOL and Yahoo also support both.
