Consumers beta test the software (iOS 11) while Apple beta tests the hardware (iPhone X).

Seems to be a convenient arrangement for Apple. iOS 11.1 is probably the real GM.

iOS 9.1 was released on October 21, 2015.

iOS 8.1 was released on October 20, 2014.



looks like it will be released before the X.
