Is there a demand for a pencil on the iPhone ?
Not much that I can see. Drawing on iPad makes sense for that nich market. I'm not an artist so on my iPad I have no real use for a pencil. On an iPhone it makes very little sense to me. Another object to carry, loose. Where do I store it? Entirely new screen needed and spend $99 for it, don't see the need for myself. Much prefer finger input for phone.

It make no sense on an iPhone. I had the note 4 and barely used the stylus once the novelty wore off on me.

The 6S+ is roughly the same size as the Samsung's Note Series of phones, and the pen has proven useful there. Everyone I know with a Note has reasons why they love the S Pen. For me, it's the screen writing options, minor Picture editing and I use it when I know my fingers are going to be too big to use the screen properly (Web browsing for example).

I'd agree with you on the smaller phones though.

I was specifically thinking about Apple Pencil and not a smaller version to put into your iPhone. Sure, you could use an S Pen for example on the Plus models, but I doubt that anyone with an iPhone wants to use the huge Apple Pencil with it.

I think that if Cook believes Apple is losing enough sales to Samsung over it, then Apple will add pen support.

Cook has commented, and then shown, that he doesn't want to leave juicy markets to competitors. And so far, this has worked quite well for him:
  • Look at the extra sales Apple picked up after putting out the iPad mini because of an Apple VP using a smaller Samsung tablet and finding out it actually was a usable size.
  • Look at the extra sales Apple picked up (and sales Samsung lost) after Cook ignored his own previous claims about picking the right screen size, and put out two larger screen iPhones.
  • Look at Apple bringing out pen support for the iPad Pro.
So, I think that if Apple needs more sales to make investors happy, Cook might just try to steal the Note market. He certainly will have no reservations against it. After all, in this case, it also makes a higher end device with more profit... not something like the SE with a lower price.

I seriously doubt it. For one, the S-Pen stows away inside the Note when not in use. Even if Apple designs a smaller Pencil, I'm pretty sure it would still be free-floating--another device to keep in your pocket. Just a hunch, but I don't think many people would want that. The other is obviously the small screen. It may be useful to some, but at that size my thinking is it's just not enough people. It would come to iPad Mini before the iPhone, but I'm not even so sure it will come to that.

Why does everyone go to drawing as the first reason to have a "stylus"? I would use it solely for taking notes. An iPad mini Pro would be ideal for me. As a Marine, the mini could fit in my cargo pocket and I could use it to take notes instead of using my note pad.

I believe they will add pencil support. With my Note 5, I use the spen constantly. No way is any of Apple's three sizes of phones too small. And, I believe they will introduce a smaller version of the pencil, too. From note taking to drawing to navigation, there are uses.

Yep and Keebler elves will walk the earth one day.

Of course it will be supported. It will be a way to upsell users to the plus and maybe increase price

They have to give up Force Touch on the phone to get the Pencil to work properly, since the Pencil utilizes pressure to control line width. You may not be able to have both.

Not necessarily. Apple could embed force touch to the pen tip. Along the lines of the magic trackpad. (although they're not the same).

I'm just wondering if you guys think it will ever happen. I'm figuring it will next year for the 10 year anniversary, but with Apple you never know.

It's rumor to, since Tim either slipped up or misspoke (read an article quoting him to the effect of pencil for iPhone).

I could care less though because even at the plus size screen, it's not big enough to make sense for the current pencil imho.
