The x is suppose to be better in low light than the iphone 8/8 plus.

Nope it'll be slightly above the 8 Plus, Pixel 2 will be the best for the next 12 months.
Slightly above the plus is what the pixel was rated. Who knows the x may get the same rating and if it does then you could say this company gave those ratings to be the same to make the big companies happy.

I think X will shoot bit better and view bit better ...
no matter what > they take over 8/8plus positive

The main camera's are the same across all 3 devices this year

X's telephoto lens seems to be marginally better, with OIS which I think will make videos nicer when zooming in/out. Nice perk for those who get the X

So they will work better. They just won't be significantly better or different. Also OP, OLED has nothing to do with the camera's picture quality.

f/2.4 on the telephoto vs 2.8 is quite a difference.

So when you consider that the X has f/2.4 and OIS on the telephoto lens, I’d bet it’ll pull off much better portrait and zoom photos than the 8+.
I’m sure the Pixel 2 XL is a beast as well. Last years variant was pretty impressive. But, at this point in the game the differences between the last 12 months of flagships are all very minimal as they are all very capable shooters for me at least.

Like most have said, the standard lens will be 100% exactly completely identical in every way. Using the zoom lens, in very bright outdoor light, the difference will be extremely minimal, if any (the shutter speeds will be so high it won’t matter). In medium light there will be a difference in the steadiness of a shot and probably clarity since it won’t need to use a high ISO. In dark light, you’ll have a brighter/steadier shot with less noise.

Those last points might be moot, however, because the default camera in iOS only activates the zoom lens in bright light. In medium/low light, the phone just uses the digital 2x zoom. However, that threshold of when the zoom lens activates will probably change since it can now function in lower light. I assume in night shots, the software will still stick with a digital zoom but I could be wrong. You can download apps that bypass all that though and force the zoom lens.

Dumb question but will the new aperture automatically be used in low lights or do we have to do something diff

Won’t know until it’s out and tried. It’s still a smaller aperture than the wide lens so I’m betting that at some light level lower than a certain amount it won’t automatically be used.

The X’s rear camera will be better because it had ois on the telephoto lens and the appeture is 2.4 vs 2.8 on the plus.

The front facing camera will be better because of the 3D stuff but I couldn’t care less about the front facing camera as I don’t take selfies.

The 3D feature on the front facing camera is due to the dual lens setup. As far as taking pictures go, I don’t think there will be any difference.

I am pretty happy with my 8+ camera

Pretty good pictures!
I bought the 8+ yesterday, this morning I tried to take some portrait pictures of my daughter but the results weren't great. There was low light since I was in my living room early in the morning and OIS would be great in that scenario. I want to try again after lunch outdoors, it is a beautiful sunny day so I shouldn't experience blurry pictures again

While the overall picture looks good. The hair details at the edges are cut off. This is poorly done by the portrait mode software.

LOL!

So. I am STILL very happy with the camera considering it is a cell phone. You and I know that the hair trimming at the edges is part of the portrait routine for the iPhone, no other way they could do it. Hope you forgive Apple.

Not really. F2.4 vs 2.8 there's a marginal increase in light. What could actually make more difference is the OIS. A good OIS can be worth 2-3 times slower shutter speed, wich would equate to 2 -3 times the amount of light

Screen has absolutely nothing to do with the camera.

In a way it does though. The average person may never look at their photos on another screen other than the one that came with their camera--until they upgrade to a new device.

While you are absolutely correct that the screen is not related to the quality of the picture the phone takes, that point will be lost on someone viewing that photo on a superior screen.

To me :

true = ios 11 really improve photo taking on iphone 6
false = ios 11 run smooth on iphone 6
