We don't get what you call financial aid here; but we do get free tuition, student loans(paid back automatically from your wages when you earn over £16,000 a year with a increasing monthly payment based on your salary), and bursaries(free money you never pay back. Edit: This is more that you are being paid to go to college).
In each and every case, no one cares nor should care what you spend the money on. However, if you spend it all on a Mac and actually need to buy some books or other stuff, its only going to hurt you personally as you'll need to get money to buy said books from elsewhere.
