Does anyone think that the Eruption of that Volcano in Iceland will reach China and delay our shipments of the iPad 3G's? I see that the Fed-Ex has issued this warning on their site.

A volcano eruption in Iceland has delayed FedEx Express shipments to and from Northern Europe.

That would be a bummer to say the least if it does huh?

China is quite a distance from Europe, you should be okay. Unless of course this is just an initial fart before the sh*t hits the fan!

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

They still have to be flown into Europe.

it says Express shipments. That's not to say Apple hasn't already got a stockpile in the US and can't chuck some extra on a ship.

And as has been said, geographically Scandanavia and China are quite a distance apart. I think you'll be right to get it on time.

They do? Why? I don't remember the wifi models going anywhere near Europe en route from China.

This is one of those threads where I can't figure out if it's me or the thread being stupid.

It shouldn't affect a US release. The iPads would be brought over on cargo ships from China.

It's likely that most, if not all of the 3G models are already in the US or just arriving now. The big issue with releases is to have the product available at all of the retail establishments throughout the whole country so that it can be released on the same day. That requires a huge amount of shipping logistics and takes quite a bit of time to make sure all of the stores have them.

Given that the OP is in Las Vegas, I assumed he was talking about the US 3G launch. In which case, surely the iPads will be flying over the Pacific from China - nowhere near the affected airspace.

Unless Apple are adopting CIA tactics and sending shipments on rendition flights.

Heh. It's terrible but it made me laugh.

I don't think either of these statements are true. If they are, it's completely different from how the wifi launch was handled. But I have a feeling I'm going to be typing that a lot over the next ten days or so, so maybe I should pace myself.

You can't really "see" it without high-falutin' meteorological equipment, but you can find a fine film of dust on your car in the morning. :)

At the moment it's blowing over the uk and tbh the sunsets at the moment are bloody amazing! Will it delay anything well yeah but it's one of those things. I'm sure the Chinese workers jumping off the roof of the ipad factory don't help either.

Oh some of these threads are interesting.

Maybe global warming will affect this too. With Al Gore on Apple's BOD it could be possible!!!!!

When I got my MBP last summer, it went from China to Alaska on it's way to me, nowhere near Europe.

My WiFi went through Germany (see photo). Notice the line where it says it arrived in Alaska then magically departed from Germany. I guess Apple has perfected their iTransporter.;)

Interesting. Though i think they come in via Alaska. I don't think they come via container ship as one poster stated. Directly from factory to you and the shorted route would be just that Alaska.

I don't think they are in the USA yet. I think they are still coming from China and will leave at the earliest next week sometime or in the last week of April at the latest.

Just had a think now if the dust cloud changes direction and takes out us airspace maybe Europe will get the ipad shipments so sales don't dip. Hmm I need to control the weather!!!

In other news, a second volcanic eruption in Iceland has laid the coastal town of Keflavik to waste and the capital city of Reykjavik plunged in absolute darkness. A new jet of pitch-black ash has begun to spread outward and some experts fear that nearly 80% of Europe will experience noontime darkness the likes of which hasn't been experienced since the dark ages.

In the United States, customers waiting for their iPad 3G shipments feared delays.

you guys are completing missing the point. The volcano probably won't have much of an effect. The Armagedon, which the Volcano (and all the earthquakes in the last week) are signaling will probably have an adverse effect on the shipment of ipads.

On TV you sometimes hear Americans don't even know where the United States is in the globe. Now it's even more confirmed. The hell. Why would the iPad first go to Europe - where it's only being launched in late may - and than to the USA. Lol.
