So when Apple finally decides to allow us to have video recording, will the current iPhones support it? Is the camera capable of doing video, or will that require different hardware?

IMO, we won't see 2.3 tomorrow. Unless Apple has decided to no longer allow developers to test betas.

If it's just a couple little updates then it might not be worth seeding to beta testers.
Maybe they just want to keep it to themselves in case it's something big.

Didn't they kind of do that with the 2.0 preview? Hold a conference, announce 2.0 development and the feature list then start beta testing?
