Until I saw it next to my new 30" ACD, my 3 year old Del 2407WFP seemed just fine to me. I never noticed that it has definite yellow-cast. I've tried to get rid of it with Colorsync adjustments and with hardware adjustments on the display itself, but no luck.

I got chastised in the Mac Peripherals forum for suggesting (OK, making a blanket statement :)) that Apple displays come pre-calibrated to SWOP standards (i.e., they render colors accurately out of the box), and that Dells and HPs come calibrated to impress gamers (i.e., they produce exaggerated colors). I will qualify this statement by saying that I have never seen a 30" Dell or HP display, but I have read plenty on online reviews that indicate these displays are not as color accurate out of the box as Apple 30" ACDs.

When I purchased my HP LP2475 I knew way ahead of time from all the forums that the colors will be saturated, but I didn't expect the disgusting color casts. And worst of all I couldn't return the monitor since I was in Hong Kong...

Apple just wows me all around, from the packaging to plugging it in to find it flawless and perfect. I rather spend the $500+ to get the acd 30" rather than the HP 30" based on my experience with them any day of the week. Seeing that red and green color cast on the HP screen and knowing I can't do anything about it seriously made me depressed for days, I'm not taking any chances with HP screens.

I have two Dells.

How the heck are the Apple displays superior? (Apart from costing more)

Well to my eyes they are. They are more even and just feel easier on the eye over extended work periods. I am sure the Dells look better on paper and all that, but for usage thats my feeling. I need the additional inputs on the Dells so hence the combination.

My opinion... did not mean to offend you in any way!

I've found that this kind of "casting" and "pre-calibration" like weighting has more to do with the specific display card being used than anything else.

This is also a bit interesting I think and kind of related to this topic: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/829222/
