I tried to use the most of the time the trackpad, but sometime I use my $5 dollar Bluetooth mouse.

All depends on the situation. For my everyday causual use, i love the trackpad.
Although, if i game (rarely), ill use a mouse. For other applicatoins, such as image editing, im more comfortable with a mouse, and not the magic mouse at that. Was never really as much of a fan of it as the trackpad.

I use the trackpad only on my MBP, however I replaced my Magic Mouse on my iMac for a R.A.T. 7 mouse. It's a gaming mouse with Mac Drivers. I basically programmed all the gaming buttons to act as multi-touch gestures on the MM. It's extremely comfortable and feels natural. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves gestures but dislikes the Magic Mouses comfort.

The trackpad built into the Pro is definitely the best trackpad on the market, and ever.

It is good enough to web browse, use office, iTunes, etc. without any problems.

If you use Photoshop, game, or anything really that isn't just basic computing, an external mouse (not Magic Trackpad) will be needed.

For Windows laptops I always use the MX Anywhere mouse. For Apple, I use the MM because I use gestures constantly. Are you saying I can do gestures with the MX? Because that's my favorite mouse and I'd switch back in a heartbeat if I could.

No, I'm saying you can replicate each default MM gesture on most multibutton mice. With my VX Revolution + SteerMouse, scrolling, zooming, swiping, etc, are all replicatable.

But to make a general statement that "MM sucks" isn't fair, unless you add "for me" at the end of that statement.

Of course it is. I think it's pretty clear for most literate people that "X sucks" is an opinion. We all learned that in what, 2nd grade? ;)

If you're using the MM with only the default gestures, you're using it wrong.

Only an opinion, of course.

Trackpad all the way. Even for games as Diablo 3, I use the built-in trackpad.

Though... I use it in combination with BetterTouchTool, mostly for things I do all the time, like closing/opening a tab or returning to a homepage in my web browser.

When in Windows, I use a Logitech G500. When in OS X, I don't think I've ever used a mouse. Trackpad support is just amazing in OS X - one of the reason I'll never switch back to Windows.

This!
Trackpad support under OS X, along with SL spaces+expose, is one of the reasons that keep me much more productive that on my Windows 7 workflow.
That's also one (or two) of the reasons why using windows laptops without a mouse is really a frickin nightmare! For me at least... :D

I use an external mouse for gaming.

I've tried using the trackpad for shooters, but it's very difficult since right clicking is often needed and that is very difficult on a single-button trackpad. Worse is some games require a middle mouse button which is impossible on the trackpad.

I use my trackpad for everything else however.

Trackpad almost all the way. It's such an awesome trackpad! One of my favorite features of my MBP.
I'm pretty big into photography and do a lot of editing on my MBP, even then I use the trackpad a lot. Only when doing a big project I plug in my mouse (which I hate btw)

pro gamer reporting in: anyone who thinks the mouse is the superior option is fooling themselves. Mapping different options to the magic trackpad lets you get your APM into the stratophere if you can multi with the keyboard. Playing with the mouse is a total scrub move, ask any high-level gamer.

I think you need to explain yourself? What kind of features do you map? What is APM?

APM is an acronym for Actions Per Minute and is one quantifiable metric for skill in real time strategy games like Starcraft. Honestly that was a joke post because only an idiot would use the trackpad at a professional level, the mouse is way better, especially for games like Starcraft where if you're clicking less than about twice a second you're gonna lose a pro match

Honestly though it'd be smart to map commands like "create unit x" or "select squad x" for things except that those are way faster and more precise to map to keys than touch commands

That's just like, your opinion, man.

That we all learned fact vs opinion in grade school?'

To expand on Recycle Bin, here's a demonstration of Korean pro gamers. These guys hit 200-300 APMs. Check out the vid at 0:09 and again at 1:30.

At that level, you're literally inputting 4-5 times a second. Even though most of it is muscle memory "spamming", it simply not possible to have that level of speed and precision with a trackpad. And thats a fact, Jack! :D

Edit: Hrm, how do you embed YouTube videos on MR?

Thanks guy's. I don't think I play Starcraft 2 well enough to click like that!!! But I see what you mean. I need to get into it more I think and set up some short cuts on the keyboard. But the number of clicks they perform is mental!!

Mouse when I'm playing games, trackpad in almost every other situation.

The trackpad imo is probably one of the main things that separates MBPs from all other laptops. I mean it really doesn't make the experience of using it so much better compared to having the type of trackpad you normally get on other laptops.

I love my magic mouse. The trackpad on my MBP is awesome and I love that too but when I am editing photos or video I need the precision of the mouse. Plus the magic mouse feels nice in my hand and has gestures. When working at my desk I hook up my monitor magic mouse and wireless keyboard and am good to go!

I just wish it would glide across trackpad surfaces smoother. That's my biggest gripe with the Magic Mouse.

Hey,

Do you use an external mouse when using your MBP or you're happy with only the trackpad?

w/ my thunderbolt displays i do (magic trackpad and razer gaming mouse), w/ the internal laptop lcd i use the built in trackpad... so i don't know how to answer this poll w/o a sometimes option.
