what about grip about trackpad?
do you lose any sensitivity?

However, I have come to the conclusion that they are worth every
penny. The Moshi keyboard protector actually makes it fell better
to type on my MBA. The palm guard and the included trackpad
guard are nearly invisible. Work perfectly. Guess you get what
you pay for. :)

I've been using a keyboard cover for about half a year now with great results. It does take a little getting used to at first, but I'm completely used to it now. I got a clear one, which doesn't change the look of the keyboard too much.

I use the thin clear Moshi covers for both my MBA and Mini keyboards, and I like them.

Dust is an issue for at least half the year where I live, which is the main reason I use them. (Also the reason I will be building an air filter box for my Mini soon.)

Plus the cover keeps keyboards clean from your finger grime, which helps when resale time comes around.

The cover material (polyurethane?) does 'dirty up' and discolour fairly quickly from skin oil, which is hard to avoid. I use a microfibre screen cloth between the keyboard and screen when I close the lid so the keyboard cover doesn't ever touch the screen and leave marks on it. Works very well. The screen is still very clean 18 months after buying the MBA (new). You do have to remember to lay the cloth the same side up each time. ie The 'clean' side up.

The cover does sort of muffle the sound output from the MBA built-in speakers to a noticeable degree, so sometimes I have to take it off to hear stuff properly. I also have some nice headphones to help deal with that, but they are not wireless so they are not always practical.

Never had a problem with over heating on the MBA.

why shouldnt we take of our Macbook Air?
its over 1000$, that seems normal for attempting to provide a good protection overall
i want it lasting for years even though i could sell it
but in case of selling, its my duty to deliver the best condition as much as possible

You don't need to tell us what your MacBook Air costs, we know. We can see the prices at store.apple.com and many of us here have purchased our own.

I used a keyboard cover when I first purchased my MBA. Two months later, spilled half a glass of milk over my MBA. All the cover proceeded to do was lead the spilled milk along the exposed hinge and shut off my MBA in a record 2 seconds.

$800 in repairs later, I tossed the cover. Just my experience.

Personally, I've owned Apple notebooks for over ten years, never used a keyboard cover, trackpad cover, keyboard protector, screen protector, whatever.

When you make these kind of posts on the Internet, you are not going to receive 100% validation from the readership. There will be a certain number of people who do otherwise.

daonesteven clearly had the same viewpoint as you initially, then his opinion changed due to his own personal experience which he was generous enough to share.

But feel free to buy one, that's why these accessory makers are in business.

Do what you want with your money, it doesn't affect us.

why did you post here then
yes covers are just cover, its up to each of us to decide whether its needed to put protection over it
i read all advice and listened from each point of view
you misunderstood the forum's purpose and be polite with others
when novice people like me ask for advice and get all useful information together
its for managing to buy or not either

I just post here for laughs and giggles. Nothing more.

That's about the most I expect from the Internet these days.

Enjoy!

:D

"No glove, no love," that's my motto :)

The number of users that refer to sex and Macs in the same vain, never ceases to amaze me. Jokingly or not it's a rather sad commentary. What is it about a cold piece of aluminum that excites you people...

Those people are virgins.

:D

Of course we are "virgins" when it comes to Macs.

Otherwise, we would have bought the Macbook Pro with Retina display. :(

It's was one of the biggest mistakes of my life to choose the MBA
as my very first Mac. :(

Well, either you dump your MBA on eBay/Craigslist/whatever and take the hit now, or continue griping about it for the next 3-4 years. It's your call. Nothing anyone here can do about it except you.

Anyhow, good luck.

Lighten up Francis, it"s called Humor!

I only use a thin keyboard cover because the keyboards for the newer MacBooks seem to get shiny within a very short time compared to the older white MacBooks.
