Always leave auto brightness on and never had any issues. Very, very rarely adjust it in dark rooms but that’s about it.

I leave it off. I would use it if you could set a minimum brightness. Gets too dark sometimes. The only time I need to adjust it is in bright sunlight.

I've kept it on since it has learned the levels of brightness I use in different lighting situations. Works fine for me. I didn't know that the screen can be even brighter with it off, but haven't had a need for it.

Auto brightness definitely on. It works rather well for me when moving between different lighting environments without me having to do anything.

How do you set up short cuts?
Go to the shortcuts app
Click the bottom “My shortcuts” tab
New shortcut
Actions
Scripting,
Scroll down to set brightness
Choose percentage brightness

it will set up a shortcut in the widget area, you can also add a home screen icon if you wish

I tried leaving auto-brightness on all day today since I was out in the sunlight a lot cutting firewood. I was impressed how it maxed out in full sun so I could see the screen clearly. I think it does learn your brightness patterns if you adjust it when necessary to your liking. Didn’t get too dark after I made the first low light adjustment to a level I prefer.

Does auto help conserve battery life?

Not in high ambient lightning such as the outdoors. I disable auto brightness permanently so I can avoid the constant high brightness kick in direct sunlight To save battery life and save the panel from wearing out quicker.
