Was wondering what your experience has been with fast charging.

The last time I was using fast charging my iPad Pro 10.5 (2 different iPads), both went from 100% to approx 80% in less than a year in barely 200 cycles or so.

So I’m wondering what your experience has been like.

Can you specify the below details?

Device:

Time of purchase:

Number of battery cycles:

Battery health*:

Do you do fast charging? Y or N

* Could be from Coconut Battery or even Battery Health etc. I’ve found all these software to be consistent with Coconut Battery regardless of what most people here say. :)

Example:

Device: iPad Pro 10.5

Time of Purchase: June 2017

Number of cycles: 200+ for my old iPad

Battery Health: 76% for my old iPad which has since been replaced. Acc to Apple it was 87% though.

Fast Charging: Exclusively.

Device: iPad Pro 12.9” (2017)

Time of purchase: June 2017

Number of battery cycles: 59

Battery health*: 97.5%

Do you do fast charging? Y, all of the time.

Device: iPad Pro 10.5” (2017)

Time of purchase: June 2017

Number of battery cycles: 100

Battery health*: 89.6%

Do you do fast charging? N, supplied charger.

So my 12.9” is doing pretty well. I often use my iPads while they are connected to a charger, since I have chargers at my desk at home, desk at work and bedside. I use fast charging on my 12.9”.
My 10.5” has dropped to 92% without fast charging. I think that it’s showing more battery cycles since it leaves the house maybe nearly twice as often as my 12.o” and I think the cycles are reflective of that. I would consider that I use them equal amounts though, just that the 10.5” has been used off the charger more often. Maybe that’s a factor, I don’t know. It could also be that batteries in the 10.5” are dropping maximum charge capacity faster than the 12.9” ones.

Any place but here or there....
Device: iPad Pro 12.9” (2017)

Time of purchase: June 2017

Number of battery cycles: 85

Battery health: 97.0%

Do you do fast charging? N, supplied charger.

I am fine with my iPad Pro charging at the slower rate. I usually plug it in overnight and that is that.

Are you using Coconut Battery. If not, what?

This is exactly my finding too. These apps report very consistent info that match in most parts with what Coconut Battery says. Lately I have been monitoring my battery very often due to problems with new machines developing battery wear so quickly and I have noticed the same thing you said. Only thing is that those apps round up results to next even 100's (so battery is actually very slightly worse condition what these apps report), so Coconut Battery or iMazing gives the most accurate numbers without rounding. For Windows machines I recommend iMazing which can give very detailed information about battery and it gives also consistent results matching Coconut Battery.

The battery lasts so long that I usually just pop it on the regular charger overnight. I’ve been eying the Anker 29w USB-C power delivery though because sometimes I could use that when traveling. Is that a good option?

Do you do fast charging? Yes

^ Sold that device shortly after the 2nd gen was announced.

Do you do fast charging? NEVER AGAIN after the first gen

I truly believe fast charging killed my first 12.9 iPads battery. Sold my fast charger on eBay and have not looked back.
