Do Macbook Pro users use the touch bar? Lots of people on this board are design pro's and I noticed that the Touch Bar previews each photo in the photos app. It also is handy working with video. Why Apple would remove it and not also have it as a option is beyond me. Including a SD card reader and HDMI port like my previous MacBook Pro was a good move, but in my opinion removing the touch bar was a mistake.

It all depends on the users setup, lots of pro users also use MacBook Pro’s in clamshell mode connected to a bigger display and never use the Touch Bar.

Yep, I use it, I have my MBP on a Twelve South ParcSlope, and it comes into view nicely, I'll miss it, but as my computer is only 4 months old, no reason to change yet.

I won't miss the Touch Bar at all. I'm sure it's awesome for the folks that it's...well...awesome for :) . I never warmed up to it. While I'm going to get one of the new machines, I'd rather have the complete flexibility of 4 TB4 ports than 3 TB4 ports + HDMI, which I would never use, and an SD card reader, which will only see very rare use. I'm mostly a CFExpress(B) user. So Touch Bar gone - yay! (for me), 4th TB4 port gone (sad!). Everything else on the machines seems to be outstanding on paper.

I've yet to see the utility for photo editing.

In apps like Photos, the little thumbnails on it are so small that I'd rather not bother.

In Lightroom, it COULD be useful for some of the sliders, but then I'm often doing delicate interplay with 3 or 4 of them at a time. Adobe, like a lot of developers, never bothered to do antyhing with it.

Personally, I'm looking forward to being able to type and not have an errant finger on the function row ruin a lot of my work-IMO one of the biggest failings of the TB since there's no tactile feedback that you're there or what you're doing with it.

Of course Apple knocked it out of the park with everything...and then put the stupid notch on it.

What happens in the next version of Mac OS... I assume the Touch Bar just becomes soft function keys and that's it. all other functionality will most likely no longer be supported.

No. Touch typist here... non-specific keys and controls are anathema... IMO, it's a waste of keyboard real estate.
Please post a video of you touch typing, with the function keys included. I have exceptionally long fingers (nothing else I promise) and I cannot reach those keys, without looking up.

Rarely. My MBP is hooked up to a 27 in monitor and I have a Magic Keyboard. so the only time I use the Touch Bar is primarily to adjust the volume when I am traveling with my laptop.

I have the infamous Touch Bar on two machines and I don't use it on either one of them. I won't miss it when it's gone on my next machine......

I'm not interested in an HDMI port or SD card slot, either, as I don't use HDMI for anything and I use only a card reader with my SD and CFExpress (Type A) cards. I would really much prefer having four TB 4/USB-C ports on the new machines, which works better for my usage.

By the way, IMHO this question really belongs somewhere other than in the Digital Photography subforum, as it has nothing to do with photography.

Actually design pros use MacBook pros unless you are admitting you are not a design pro.

I doubt that. I am the amateur.
A professional, by definition, is someone who gets paid. Therefore an amateur is someone who does NOT get paid.

You are correct, there are a handful of paid photographers on this board, but the VAST MAJORITY of us take photos as a hobby and do not get paid for them.

Skill level ≠ Professional

I never had an issue with the Touch Bar. I actually like it a lot and I use it all the time to input text and emojis. I like also scrubbing through videos and even changing tabs. I know that the Touch Bar though has no future whatsoever and it's a shame actually. I never accidentally invoked the Touch Bar, so I don't get the negative publicity of the last years.
