It's too late now, but if you could retroactively change the resolutions of their past devices, do you wish the original iPhone dubued with a resolution of 640x400 and the iPhone 4 upped it to 1280x800.
And the iPad followed suit with a resolution of 2560x1600. You would be able to play back HD content on the iPhone and iPad Mini at native resolution. This would have also made developers cross supporting multiple devices with their apps much easier.
Not to mention the fact that 16:10 is the ideal aspect ratio for your eyes.
It's the Golden Ratio that many artists and architects who studied it estimate to be the proportion most aesthetically pleasing to the human eye.
It's also a perfect in between aspect ratio between the current iPhone and the iPad and would also allow for native playback of movies.
