How do I keep my doc files opening in doc and not docx?
I have tried using the get info menu with no results.

I'm sorry I was not clear enough. I wish to keep Word documents generated in Word Office X (doc) in doc and Word 2008 in docx. Now word 2008 changes doc to docx when I open any text file originally composed in .doc.
