Well, I tried customizing my dock with a 3rd party app, but after applying the changes, I noticed that a new icon appeared in my dock - the icon for Dock.app. When I try quitting the app, it has a similar effect to the terminal command "killall Dock" - the dock quits, relaunches, and the icon is still there.

Since then I've tried numerous things:

1) Deleting the com.apple.dock.plist files.
2) Uninstalling and restoring the settings in the third party app.
3) "killall Dock" numerous times.

I've Googled this matter, but obviously, it has been to no avail.

So, my question, of course, is: HOW THE HELL DO I GET THE GODDAMN THING OUT OF THERE!

I have done a Time Machine backup, and am contemplating a reinstall, but does time machine keep system preferences as well?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Not a Lion user yet... but couldn't you just click and hold down the icon until it gives you the option to remove from dock or hide... Like in SL.

Edit.. Read more of your post, noticed you installed third party software which program is it?

The program happened to be Dock Dr. However, I completely restored settings from within the app, and then deleted it. I also deleted the .plist preferences. Right clicking gives me the option to hide - it doesn't do anything - and to force quit (says it's not responding) - which just relaunches it.
