I really love the Users of OS X, it's easy for me to customize my desktop and settings, and not upset my parents, but I also want to customize my dock, and I don't want to mess up their docks in the process. What can I do?

As long as you have different logins, your changes will have no effect on theirs.

You're right, I just checked it on my system and I changed the icon of my hd and it changed it in all accounts. Sorry I couldn't help, hopefully some of the more knowledgable users will know if it's possible

what sort of customization were you thinking about? i know theres lawn dock and another thing that you can make your dock transparent. the lawn dock looks cool, but i like mine just the way it is. you can check out the lawn dock at http://www.iheartny.com/xicons/
i'm sure thats where i got the program form, but i can't find it now.

edit> no wait, i found where you can get the lawn dock it's http://www.iheartny.com/xicons/indexold.html

have fun.

Hmmm...editing the Dock PDFs is a universal thing, so if you make it transparent it's going to be that way for everyone.

Same goes for application icons. Sorry.

But at least you can place it where you want and add/arrange the icons within it as you see fit.:) :(

Hhhmmm....

They had something on TechTV (screensavers) the other night, Megan had a tip for Mac users, she used a program called "Transparent Dock", from what she showed it looked like you can make the Dock completely tarnsparent! No border or nothing! But they suggest backing up your original Dock file (where ever that is  ) But it looked cool! It might change from user to user because there was one point during the Dock setup thing where she had to type in the user's password. Well you might be able to find this out at www.thescreensavers.com or www.techtv.com, well this didn't quite fit the subject but I just threw it out there so you guys can check it out. Enjoy!

Yup, I've been using Transparent Dock since the beginning, and I love it. Also turned on the semi-transparent icon "Hide" feature that dims any application's icon that's currently hidden. All of these things should be standard preferences! That's one thing Apple's always been slow or reluctant on: PREFERENCES!
