Dock lacks animation and labels

Hello all,

I just got a macbook C2D and my girlfriend also got an identical one. My problem is that when I mouse over the dock, the labels do not appear over the icons. Also when I enable the magnification effect, nothing happens. All these work perfectly on my girlfriend's macbook.

Has anybody else had this problem? I will try reinstalling OSX in a few hours unless I've worked it out.

Problem solved...I think.

I just installed Office Mac and when it restarted the dock, everything started working properly. Joy.

I probably should have just tried rebooting.
