I don't think it's going to be 'fixed' it just works differently now.

I keep running out of trackpad before completing the gesture. :D

Can't remember but I think DP1 was fine and the dock seemed to pop up with little effort.

First swipe to reach the lower of the dock, second swipe to unhide it!
Works also with a single swipe from the center of the trackpad
Here's how mine works:

1.) "Slam" pointer to bottom of screen
2.) Bring pointer up 3.43 inches
3.) Crap! lifted finger off trackpad. Go to step 1.
4.) Slowly move pointer to bottom of screen
5.) Finger runs out of trackpad. Got to step 1.
6.) Success! (But forgot what I needed from Dock).

Same ... it's extremely annoying.

Showing the dock shouldn't be this hard ! lol. it's like a finger workout.

Thanks for this, I hadn't noticed the change in full screen and assumed the dock was buggy. More so, this now fixes the issue of the 2nd screen dock for me also which would sometimes appear and sometimes not. Using the procedure mentioned in here brings up the dock on the inactive window first time.

Still seems like a laborious way of displaying the 2nd dock for me, but I understand the thought behind it for full-screen apps.

i had the same problem with the dock, but for me this is the solution.

1. Move your mouse to the bottom of the screen till it can't go any lower
2. Make a slow swipe down with one finger. Dock appears.

So basically you need to make two swipes. One fast one to get your mouse to the bottom of the screen and then make a second slower swipe downwards to display the dock. Make sure that on the second swipe you keep contact with the track pad all the way down. A fast short swipe won't work.

This works every time for me. It's not the most user friendly function, but it does the trick.

Based on all the problems we superior beings here have with this :D... I bet the common folk will be in an uproar should this dock behavior make it to the final release. Just a thought.

Off now... to find somebody that can tie my shoes.

The new way of showing the dock is so much slower and sometimes I have to try it 2-3 times. So frustrating, the old way was fine.

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed but since DP7 the Dock is finally starting to show up in full screen without that lengthy slow/deliberate trackpad swipe-down gesture that was, annoyingly, required in DP6 and earlier.

I think it's pretty close now to how it was in 10.8, but not exactly. I seems as though Apple no longer wanted the Dock to be easily/accidentally triggered in full screen and at least in DP7 the implementation is no where near as bad as before. You need to be more deliberate than you needed to in 10.8 but I can definitely live with it now.

Yes, I think so. Either that or I'm just getting used to it. Regardless, After a while you don't really think about it anymore.

It used to be that if you used this code in terminal you could move your mouse to the bottom of the screen in a full screen app the dock would pop up immediately. I don't think the code works at all anymore since it doesn't seem to change the dock behavior in non-fullscreen apps. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Remove Dock Delay
defaults write com.apple.Dock autohide-delay -float 0 && killall Dock

It's "worked" for me in DP8, but full screen apps still exhibit the need for two mouse swipes/drags down to get the dock on the screen. Very annoying, but it's that fine balance of wanting it to appear when you need it, and not appearing whenever the mouse just happens to appear in the bottom of the screen.

Fix in final release?

So I installed the official release yesterday and the Dock is not showing up within fullscreen apps until you swipe down twice and maybe 1 mile underneath your display...

I was googling and found this forum and I think I fixed it somehow – just head over to the dock settings and turn on automatic hiding. Then on the desktop try how responsive it is – then turn it off again.

Now I think the Dock is much more responsive than it was. Does anyone else have the same feeling?

Now only one longer swipe down is needed for the dock to be shown.

PS: doees it work for you? Vote this post up!

I was noticing the new way to get the dock to show up when in a full screen application and found this forum. So glad.

No, to activate the dock, it is no longer a two step procedure (put cursor on bottom edge, wait a sec, then drag downwards again).

The new method is drag cursor on bottom edge and without lifting your finger, wait a sec. Basically, it's the same as what you do on the upper edge to get the menu back.

I actually prefer the new way as it makes more sense. The original was actually unintuitive. Problem is, I've adapted to doing it the other way so am trying to re-train myself. The new way makes sense though.

it's entirely intentional and makes complete sense. putting an app full screen is for the purpose of giving it more screen area, so the dock and menu bar are hidden off screen unless you need them. it takes an extra effort/gesture to summon them because other wise any time you accidentally overshot to the top or bottom of the display with the cursor, they would pop up and cover what you were trying to click on. if you are using a full screen app and need such quick and frequent access to the dock or menu bar, then you shouldn't be using the app full screen.

Thanks for the tip. Hadn't gotten around to using that feature lately. It is much more responsive now in Mavericks than in Mountain Lion.

when you go to the bottom of the page to where you dock is, hold your finger on the tracking pad for a moment and your dock will appear, if you just swipe it down it will remain hidden
