I just updated from Monterey to Sonoma (14.4.1) on my m1 mini, and it went relatively well except:

The dock which is set to auto-hide on the left sometimes just gets stuck unhidden. It still functions, it just won't leave the desktop.

If I go into System Settings, I can see the switch is on for auto-hide. If I turn the switch off and back on again, it then hides the dock. This happens several times a day, and has never happened before on any other OS version.

What should I do to address this?

You could try to delete Dock's preference files, log out & in and set it up again.
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.extra.plist
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.dock.extra.......plist
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.dock.......plist
