iPod touch Docking problem?

I have a Sony home theater sys and when I dock my pod it`s hard to get it to play music.When it does work,it shuts itself off.I`m using the adapter that came with the pod and have also tried the one that came from Sony.Both have the same issues.Audio cable works and the pod works on all other applications.
Any one have an idea?
