Success over here, too. Applying the theme and then Enabling DockMod from the menu bar did the trick. So, so much better. But now I, too, am wondering if it's possible to have a completely transparent dock.

Not sure if you can get 100% as I still see the diagonal edges very faintly but you can indeed make the dock 'mostly' transparent.

Also not sure if this works on the side dock haven't bothered to test yet.

Attached is the basic settings to do so and what it looks like. (also have a black background overlaid on my wallpaper with GeekTool.

ARRGH!!! I see they still have not removed the free mode text on the Black only option.

The Nocturne theme by KillaAaron uses Dockmod to get the black dock, somehow he figured out how to remove the "Free mode" text..
If you read his page on the Nocturne theme, he had the black dock working with all the beta's all the way up to the actual Mavericks release.
When he posts his new version for 10.9, i'll be switching. Odds are in a few days now that the Dockmod beta for 10.9 is out. (crosses fingers)

I could care less for all the "extras" the paid dock mod has.. Black Dock is all I want. I just want to be able to see the status lights without straining the eyes. So for now, i'll deal with the extra text. (Annoying as it is...)

How would one go about changing the dock indicator manually now that CandyBar doesn't work?

I used Nocturne theme, chose the Red indicators. (I'm sure there are lots more indicators on Deviantart/other apps also. I thought someone got Candybar working on 10.9?..)
Theme:

The black dock doesn't work, everything else does. (black dock obviously from DockMod beta now)

Doesn't look all that bright.. but remember the indicator is right next to the black bezel as well.. it stands out.
I wouldn't mind turning down the reflection a bit though.

Wow absolutely love the look of your dock how did you get it to look so clean when everyone else here is reporting issues? I just stumbled across this DockMod thread, and before I try installing it I was wondering if anybody was succesfully running it on the 1st GM 13A598 build (the pre-appstore version of mavericks). I haven't installed the official "appstore' version of mavericks yet (havent had any of the issues that other users are reporting with the 13A603, and have been content with the 13A598). seeing as how its a beta I don't want it f**kin anything up (pardon my language).

Thanks in advance :)

Well like I said, I installed the Nocturne theme and selected the red indicators.
But the Black dock doesn't work with that theme. (Granted the notes say it *does* up to the release version..)
I think the options are red/blue/white?/purple? I know there are 4.. I forget the last two.

Funny thing though, I did not like all the rest of the theme.. I really only wanted the black dock. So I uninstalled the theme. Except the red indicators did not uninstall.. So I had the stock dock with the red lights.

So when the Beta was released for Dock Mod, i installed that.
Even after multiple reboots due to a few bugs with 10.9, the red lights (and black dock) stay.

I'll take it. But want the "DockMod Free Mode" text gone..

Edit. it's pink not purple.

Same here. That Free mode text is Driving me mad! and whats more I actually have a paid license and only bought it for the black dock. Still no news form killaAaron over on deviantArt. I left a message, but haven't had any response as yet. I also see that he hasn't been around on MR for some days now, so Hopefully he has something in the pipeline.

Go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > CoreServices. Then right-click on Dock > Show Package Contents > Contents > Resources.

Change the following files (renaming the originals) to your desired image. For bottom dock: indicator_small.png, indicator_medium.png. For a side dock the files are: indicator_side_medium.png and indicator_side_small.png.

For retina screens change the @2x versions of these files.

what settings did u use to get the menubar transparent? (and kudos on the excellent icons..!)

My menu bar isn't transparent - it's just the basic translucent menu bar setting. Must just be the wallpaper.

I like this, how'd you get the dock totally invisible? Also really like that indicator light, care to share it?

In DockMod I used a "Floor Image" but set the opacity to zero and unchecked "Shine Color". (The image I used was one I made in Photoshop where I already had set the opacity to zero, but I don't really think that made a difference). As you noted above, it's not completely invisible, the edges of the dock and the dock separator line are visible, but my wallpaper makes that hard to see.

The indicator light I got from here.

Even if he fixes it for paid licenses, it looks like your $8 only gets you a license for one computer, which is a no go for me––I'm not paying $16 just to get a black dock back on both my machines.

Which is too bad, because this is exactly how I want the dock to look...

Exactly the reason I keep an eye on the Nocturne theme.
Not going to pay $8 per mac to have a black dock..

$8 to have all the colors and images on the dock.. sure. Black should be free, with no text.

I caved and bought it, as I discovered you can make the black dock yourself. Just make a small black image, save it, and load it as the floor image. Make the shine color black and select the scaling to stretch, and it looks identical.

beta is up on their site, just downloaded it...
a bit finicky; "apply" did not work for me, i had to disable then re-enable the app (in it's menubar settings).

can i make the dock transparent? hmmm...anyway, worth checking out.

dockmod

THANK YOU! I got my transparent dock with reflection back from this post!

Thanks. Used a black floor image and changed the shine color to black. It's similar to the black dock on the free mode toggle and it does the job.

how'd you get it transparent? am missing something...

It's not exactly 100% transparent. I posted how to do it a few days ago

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18316168/

In case you can't tell from the image.

Dock Type - Square
Floor Image - A picture of anything
Overlay - UNCHECKED
Image Opacity - 0%
Image Scaling Type - Stretch

Other settings can be whatever you want. This also only works with the 3D dock on the bottom.

Depending on the colors behind it and your screen resolution you will be able to see slight gray diagonals on the left and right side as well as the separator between Apps and Folders/Trash but they are pretty faint.

I think you mean 0%. Just clarifying for others.
