Documents folder is in iCloud but doesn’t show in Files app

I’m positive that my Documents folder is in iCloud. That’s the way I have it setup in my Mac. But in the Files app, both on my iPad and my iPhone, it doesn’t show. It shows every other folder that I have at the root of the iCloud Drive folder, and even shows the Mac Desktop folder, but not the Documents folder.

The weird thing is that it shows the recents folder, and in it, recent fiLes from my Mac, for example lots of screenshots. Also, if idea search for some file I know is in the documents folder, it will show up in the search results.

Any ideas?

That is weird. Out of curiosity, does it show up in the web interface on iCloud.com?

Also, I know you said you're positive your Documents folder is on iCloud, but just to confirm, this is checked, right?

Very good questions. I just noticed something interesting. According to my iCloud settings, the Documents folder is part of iCloud sync:

Also, I see it in the Finder as part of the iCloud drive:

However, I had failed to notice that in the path bar, it shows as the local documents folder. I have never seen that before. So I did the most obvious, which is to disable Desktop & Documents Folders, and then re-enable it.

That worked, it's now back in the iCloud documents folder, syncing almost 40 GB of documents, and since I have Spectrum internet, it's going to take like a week.
