does a daily USB connection harm the battery life ?

Hi,
I have the iPhone quite often connected via USB to my computer thus it is being charged all the time. I also do use the phone when not connected via usb so the battery is being used.

Can a contact charging harm the battery ?

No, it is good for Li-ion batteries to be charged frequently.

That's the part you didn't understand.

When it reaches 100% the battery stops charging and the phone ignores it and just runs off the power connection.

So as far as the battery is concerned, being fully charged is the same as the phone being off.

yes ok but there is a point where the iphone charges again since it stays at 100% all the time.

yeah that will be fine but maybe once a week, run the battery completely dead (the iPhone won't turn on dead) and give it a full charge without touching it... that will keep your battery in tip top condition

It's fine because it's smart enough to stop charging. But:

My iPhone 3G often glitches, with the icon in the top right corner of the screen showing a fully charged battery, yet the big battery in the middle of the screen shows around 20%.
Using a wall charger btw, haven't seen this occur on the iMac...

Actually, Apple recommends complete discharge/charge no LESS frequently than once a month. See Rorschach's post above. Not sure whether I'd do this once a week though.
