help!

Ok, so I just posted another thread on this, but I def need as much help as possible.

I replaced my keyboard and my computer stopped working...

You can tell I opened the case because the black tape on the keyboard is ripped by accident. Is there anywhere I can get this kind of tape, or the yellow tape?
 
Did the computer stop working directly after/as a result of you replacing the keyboard, or did the problem occur some time after the repair? If the failure is the result of your improperly installing the keyboard, then I'd say it would otherwise be evident that you caused it and the warranty would be void anyway (and rightly so). Replacing the tape would be dishonest in this case I think, IMHO, not to mention pointless.
 
Hi, i'm new to this forum but I just went to the apple website and chatted to one of there reps, Glen, very nice guy! And he informed me that upgrading the internal hard drive will not void the applecare warranty, he said that the applecare would not cover the new hard drive but would still cover everything else, as long as apple don't claim that the new hdd caused the fault!
 
If you want to be sure, call AppleCare. I did. They said it does void the warranty. If you get a different answer, especially in writing, I'd love to see it!

I replaced my HDD in my "Classic" MBP (which was not listed as user replaceable) and I flat out asked several Geniuses if that would void the warranty. I was told that if no parts were damaged during installation, I was good to go (minus the non OEM HDD). I had TWO logicboards replaced, the Matte screen and two keyboards replaced with the HDD installed that I put in.

In the Apple paperwork, it says that I replaced the HDD. Never had one problem or hesitation on Apples' end to get these fixed. And yes I realize this thread is 2-3 years old, but someone did some searching for this.

If you install yourself and break something on the way in or out, it's on you.

There is no *requirement* that an Apple Certified Tech do the install, only a recommendation.

It's a widely known and publicized fact that the hard drive and RAM are user upgradable/replacable. Now as for the need to search for and revive a 2+ year old thread--- now that's what i'm not understanding..

What I cannot understand is why people feel the need to beat up on new members who know how to use the search function! ;)
 
I actually called Apple Support about this when I got my new 2011 MBP. ANYTHING that there is instructions for in the manual that comes with your computer DOES NOT VOID your AppleCare. There are instructions for both hard drive and memory replacement in the MacBook Pro manual. Both parts are user-replaceable.
 
apple sales/appe care/ apple retail stores (regent st, Bham) all have told me that hdd does not void the warranty.

Although, the dude at the regent st store, caught on when i mentioned placing an ssd in my new mac by a 3rd party vendour like owc.ocz
he implicitly stated that the optibay solutions most definitely does void
to which i answered - whats an optibay? :p :p

That doesn't surprise me simply because it involves the removal of the optical drive.
