Hey Guys,

I wanted to know does a iPad-2 Apple Smart cover work with iPad-3 ? I have an iPad-3 and I wanna use a iPad-2 cover on it ? does it work properly with the sleep/wake functionality?

Be more specific on models. I had bought the original iPad 2 in 2011 and got a smart cover for it. That same smart cover worked for my iPad 4 I bought in 2012.

If you are referring to the iPad 2 (2011) and iPad 3 (2012) then yes they should be compatible. Now if you are referring to the iPad Air 2 and the iPad (2017) then I do not believe those are compatible at all.

The one I bought for my iPad 3 said in its description that it would work for iPad 2, 3 and 4.

I know iPad Air and Air 2 can share. And iPad 2017 and 2018 can share. Not sure if all four can share smart covers though.

iPad Pro 9.7 has a unique one and can't share with any other 9.7 iPad. That I know for a fact.

Yes I mean the iPad-2 Apple Smart Cover which was released in 2011 and the iPad-3 which was released in 2012. So you are saying the Apple Smart Cover should work right ?

I remember now, they changed something with magnets and iPad 2 covers made by apple would still work but the third party ones didn’t anymore. So original Smart Covers by apple for iPad 2 should work with 3.

Others have already mentioned it, but the Apple Smart Cover for iPad 2 from 2011 definitely work on the iPad (3rd gen and 4th gen) from 2012.
