Maybe an app that lets you track your iPhone via GPS when someone steals it?

Not doable since Apple does not allow background applications. And an application such as what you're suggesting is very very dangerous. What's to stop some jealous boyfriend or something from installing a tracking app on their girlfriends iphone?

GPS on the iphone is only activated once the Maps App is opened. So this wouldnt work. That's why loopt needs permission first....
