My VP's new iPhone 6S has something funny going on when he sends a text message. His screen shows a grey box in the area where your text message should be when typing it. This grey box with 0:00 in it actaully hides the text he is typing and is frustrating!

Anyone know what this is and why it is there. He is on 9.1 on a new 6S

Looks like a voice message which is empty (introduced in iOS 8). However, I presume it's a bug as it should only appear for iMessages and not green SMSs.

If you restart the phone it'll probably fix itself.

They have restarted their phone and it goes away for a while and then returns soon after. He can do multiple texts and then all of a sudden the grey box shows up and hides his new typed text.

Except voice recording isn't available with SMS messages, only iMessages, I believe, so this is particularly odd.

I believe he is hitting the voice message part where it says send. Mine kept doing it the other day (guess accidentally hitting) so I just kept my hands away

I have tried hitting the mic icon and it does not leave the box there it records or goes away when you type a message.

I do agree it look like the voice message box with zero seconds of recording but I can not get my 6S+ to duplicate this.

It kept happening to me Saturday and had to restart the phone to get it to go away. Don't know what's up with it

I have the same problem. It's annoying. Currently running a iPhone 6 Plus on iOS 9.0.

Clearing the messaging app from the active programs list usually fixes it.
