So I have a dozen of books in the iBooks app that I purchased a year ago.

honestly however I’ve never read them because even on my iPhone 8 Plus I feel the screen is too small to read for so much amount of time.

ive tried making the text bigger but then I’m reading only a few sentences per page and it just seems unintuitive to read like this.

I used to have an iPad and could read a chapter or two per sitting box problem but on the phone is just seems difficult for me. I’m wondering if any veteran iPhone users here may have tips on how to best use the iBooks app so as to read a book on it.

I've read a few dozen books on my iPhones. But I use the + series for a bigger screen. I much prefer reading books on my iPad Air 3 (formerly 10.5 Pro, Air 2) (and have read most of my books there in the last few years).

I usually turn the font size to the 4th from smallest option then do the brown or grey background with scrolling view checked. I'm nearsighted so reading small text is not difficult for me. I get about 32 lines of text per page on my 11 Pro Max.

Having brightness WAY down helps me read for long periods of time (too much brightness and I get a headache after reading for 30 mins).

Just powerhouse through it - I grew up on books and read books throughout my childhood to 1-4am. When Kindle first came out I used to read gobs of Kindle books ... then went to an iPad because I do everything on Apple anyway.

What I see from most of my family/friends with iPads = they let other notifications/apps distract them while reading or they have brightness near max.

Turn DND on, grab a cup of Earl Grey tea, open a window if weather permits (fresh air), and prop your feet up with a few pillows, put on some noise cancelling headphones - and try to get through an hour of reading - remember, keep brightness down.

You'll get used to it with time - I did. Now I can read easily 6 hours on a weekend (if I so wish) or 5+ hours on a plane via my iPad or my iPhone and 100% of my reading is electronic.

This month I've finished: The Aviators by Winston Groom, 12 Years a Slave by Solomon Northup, and The Library Book by Susan Orlean. Mostly on my iPad Air 3 (less than 10% on my iPhone). :)

iBooks ends up being a PDF prison and printed invoice PDF prison for me. It's a horrible app (I think). I tried reading a book on my Plus iPhone with it and I didn't like the experience. If I'm going to read a book, it's going to be printed on paper. (I think kindle sucks too)

Over here
Yes, but only technical books that I use when at desktop, book on one screen, work on the other. For general reading, no, always use Kindle for everything else.

I prefer paper, but electronic copies are usually cheaper, so I limit my paper copies to vacations (e.g. the beach). I use the ipad for kindle and ibooks, but sometimes continue reading on my iphone when I’m stuck in a waiting room, it’s pretty convenient continuing where I left off and not having to carry anything else with me.

I do, but not often.

Sure, if I have my 12.9" iPad with me, I'd rather use that. But I have a variety of reference materials and even casual reading that I want (or need) to access even when I don't have my iPad with me. I'd rather have the small print edition than none at all.

I prefer paper, but iBooks looks and acts better for ebooks then kindle. But PDF’s don’t function well, so I prefer adobe in that aspect.

Constantly. Have a 200+ library of purchased books, read on my 11 Pro Max on the subway and in bed and the iPad Pro. I prefer Books to Kindle since they add some space around the text to allow it to breath. I also use auto scroll at times which makes pages feel endless and I can read one handed

Almost never, unless a manual or something similar that I must reference is only in iBooks. I chose Kindle long ago.

If you're having trouble reading smaller fonts on your iPhone screen it might just be time for reading glasses. I don't know how old you are, but we all need them eventually. :(

If you compare the medium font sizes on the iPhone to print in a typical paperback, you'll find that it's around the same. Once I got proper reading glasses it really opened me up for reading on my phone for long periods without eye strain.

Nope. Not enough customization, limited sharing and organization is a pain. I use a 3rd party epub reader when I wish to read on the phone (alas, it doesn't play nice with the notch). I can read fine on iPhone in general though. Been reading since 3.5" OG iPhone with Stanza.

However, I do prefer side by side landscape on iPad which is always with me anyway or on Kindle Paperwhite or Kobo Libra H2O.

iBooks didn't exist during my first intro to Apple iPhone (3GS) and I was absent 6 years when iOS 7 released.

So most of my books are on Kindle or Aldiko (a skeuomorphic clone of iBooks' old UI). Lately I only use Apple Books to keep all my user guides from Apple.

Doubtful I'll be using it on my iPhone or iPad. While it's nice they brought back the hardcover spine look to the book covers, the lack of page turn animation and the 'open book UI' on iPad being gone as well, makes it far less interesting to use.

I honestly never have. I was very ecstatic about when Apple allowed us to remove built in apps. I pretty much removed everything but calendar, notes, and the calculator.

It just feels better to use on an iPad for me, I used to read a lot of my car magazines there before they moved their content to YouTube. I could never really do it on a phone, even on my current XS Max, it just makes more sense to do it on an iPad.

Yep, I do all of my reading now on my iPhone X. I used to split it with the iPP 10.5 where I would use the iPad at night in bed but it's so much more comfortable using the iPhone with one hand. If I had an iPad Mini then that would be my primary reader. I haven't owned a physical book in years.

Love iBooks. Usually I am using my iPad Mini, but if traveling I can open it on my 11 Pro and it syncs in an instant!

Yes and they never sync correctly, especially the audiobooks.
Worked way better before iTunes was split up.
