I've tried True Tone on my 12 mini and iPhone 16. To my eyes, it looks way too yellow/orange.

Does anyone actually use it?

Does it get less yellow with time? i.e. does it calibrate itself?

Or do your eyes just get used to it?

It matches the tone to the color of lighting where you are using your device, so it will only be yellow if you have artificial lighting with a low color temperature (warm tone) which is common in northern/central Europe and North America.

I've used it from day one on all of my devices that support it. I don't really notice it anymore in everyday use, but I have it disabled when doing photo editing and the instant shift can be jarring and make the display look very blue depending on the lighting in the room.

For obvious reasons, it's turned off on the Macs we use to edit photos, which also get regular color calibration. I leave it on on my iPhone 15 Pro, and it seems to work fine there. It used to annoy me on some of my older iPhones, but Apple has improved the calibration on the latest models and it no longer looks super yellow.

I use True Tone for obvious reasons as brightness changes through the day depending on the level of lighting.

I don’t use Night Shift because that gives the screen a yellow tinge and I’ve always been able to get to sleep without it as True Tone adjusts the brightness to the lowest setting when I am in darkenss.

I read a lot and using True Tone and Night Shift helps me soooo much (atleast I feel like). (I used to use Night Shift set all the way to the right but now I am using the default setting.)

I use it on my MacBook Pro and my iPad Pro. It looks fine and easier on the eyes. Never on the phone. For some reason I like a bright white screen on my phones.

It helps a lot to deal with eye straining effects of modern OLED displays. Anyway I don’t strive for color accuracy on my iPhone, unless I am doing photo edits (tho I guess during editing iOS disables it)

Truetone and night shift all the way 24/7 , no issues with yellow tint . Might as well embrace the tint
