Nah. I prefer it. I get bored with my phones pretty quickly so it's nice to have something worthwhile to upgrade to every year. Plus if you spend a little more on your monthly bill ($100+) then you can upgrade every 18 months.

Yeah, that would go over real well waiting two years. 🙄

I can only imagine 2 years of posts about what the next iPhone is going to be. 🙂
 
Every year is good, those who want the latest and greatest can upgrade if they want to. I decided t wait for the next iPhne, skipping the 3Gs.
 
By giving a new iPhone every year, Apple is pushed to give more features. If not, the 3GS would have come out this year.

Well, there's this little issue called Competition.

Gotta keep up, y'know. Or, in Apple's case, gotta stay ahead.
 
Not annoying.
It's your choice to buy/upgrade or not.
If you always want to feel like you have the latest and coolest gadget then it will get annoying and expensive in general.
With computers and other stuff manufacturers upgrade their product line alot more often.
 
It's annoying only in the sense that we all want what we can't have (or can't justify), and shiny new iPhones are one of the most tempting gadgets on earth.

Last year my wife and I upgraded our 3G iPhones to the 3GS. We were only a year into our contracts, but eBay-ing the old phones got us almost the entire new contract subsidy back (we got $300 each), plus we got the "early upgrade" discount from AT&T. So that's always an option for you frequent upgraders. The iPhone holds its value like a Honda.

I feel pretty confident that the 3GS will carry us to the end of our new contracts in 2011. The speed was the big draw. I JUST HATE LAG. None to speak of on the 3GS. I'm very happy.

So I'm not expecting a big enough bump next year to make me drool too much. At least, there's nothing about my 3GS that I'm unhappy with, in comparison to the 3G where I was annoyed with the lag.

Of course, an 800x600 screen would catch my attention, but I'm really not expecting that.
 
I don't care about upgrading computers every time they update those. My iMac will be two years old in March and I'm gonna use it till it dies before replacing it.

My iPhone is the thing that I will upgrade on every year and have ever since the first one. I spend over $100 a month on my AT&T bill so AT&T allows me to upgrade at the subsidized price every year.

Those who want to upgrade every year can spend $100 a month as well.
 
Does anyone else find it annoying that mobile phone geeks constantly complain everytime some other device has more features than the mobile they have . . . 😉

Just be glad you don't also like to keep up with the latest WinMo and Android phones.

Seems like there's a new one popping up every month.

A person could spend thousands getting one of each 🙂
 
why is that annoying? The contract is 2 years but ATT lets you upgrade after one year, but you just have to start over, which shouldn't be a big deal since you will obviously want the next one the next year. So i dont really see the problem with every year.

...and to get the latest version of the WinMo OS, you generally HAVE to buy new hardware (with some exceptions). With the iPhone, you get the latest OS for FREE (or very cheap) without upgrading. Now THATS a good deal.
 
I bought an iPhone in 2008. I'm going to replace it with a new one in 2010.

It's fantastic that Apple updates the iPhone every year. It sucks that the carriers won't allow us to upgrade, by selling 2 year contracts.

I'd love to pay more for the phone and have only a one year contract with Tmobile.

Would you agree to pay more, upfront, for the handheld, if the contract was only one year? For instance, paying $400 for a price subsidized 16GB 3GS or $200 for an 3G? Somehow, I think not. 😉

Every year keeps them ahead (barely) of the curve.
Would you wish they update iPods/desktops/laptops ever 2 years.

The only people complainin about the every year wit the 2 year contract are those who (sadly) feel that they must have the latest and greatest (you know all those 3G iPhones that stopped working when the 3GS came out 🙄). Perhaps you should petition AT&T to shorten their service contract to 1 year to keep up with the iPhone upgrade cycle.

As far as 1 year contracts, Verizon is offering them.
 
It's actually pretty smart, because it's a way for them to make more money. There are people out there who have a 3G and than heard about the 3GS and dropped the 3G and had to pay more money to upgrade since their contract wasn't up. That's the way I see it.
